I've got all my boards cut but just wondered if anyone has any tips for fixing to the walls.

I've done a couple of longer bits and had to plug/screw and also use grab adhesive to get a tight fit. Is that pretty much the way to do it or am I missing a trick? Gonna take me a while if they all need plugging and screwing, which they will given the walls aren't bang on straight.

Thats the way I did it, Screw the longer bits if the walls are uneven and stick the shorter bits. Takes a while but gives a nice tight finish.

Use masonry nails instead of screws, you don't even need to punch them in just leave them proud and pull them out after the gripfill has set.

This is the tip I was looking for! Cheers.

I'm sure this is how the chippy fixed them in the bedroom as there's no evidence of screws anywhere. I ran out of money before he'd finished doing the other 80% of the extensions.

Is there a particular gripfill/adhesive that I should look out for?

No More Nails do a specfic skirting board adhesive - maybe try wickes (a lot cheaper than B&Q)

Cheers mate. The stuff I bought from B&Q (unibond I think) is total cr@p!

Evo Stik do a product called Sticks Like st, (no joke). I've used other stuff before but this stuff has an almost instant "grab".

I use Gripfill (green tube - solvent) and pin them with a finish nailer.

It seems to have been forgettably renamed 'Nail and Seal'. Haven't seen such tepid marketing for years.

The original did seem to sum things up so much better....

It takes an Australian to do it best, as in this other fine piece of branding:

The stuff you get from B&Q is inveariably waterbased and ste

the proper gripfill stuff (in a green cardboard tube) you can get from builders merchants and really does work- we used half tubes to fix sheets of 2mm stainless steell as cladding in our chippies- when we took it off it stripped the wall!

Not sure what all these 'sticks like' things are, but you want the semi-foaming PU glue type.

I use Pink Grip sounds a bit ghey but works better than Grip fill and doesn't go off as quick.

Meaning you get time to get the Mitre joints perfectly lined up.

Well i've just fixed them with the green tube grip fill and held with 100mm masonry nails. Sorted!

Gonna need a bit of caulk here and there but looks right enough to me. Thanks for the info chaps.
