Newbie Tuscan purchase advice
Discussion
Hi, if possible I'm looking for a bit of advice about a planned Tuscan purchase. I have limited experience when it comes to what to look for and associated costs so I was just wondering if anyone could advise me on whether the following classified ad is a good deal and if not, what would be a good price to pay for a Tuscan like this (age, mileage etc)? The car is in perfect condition and will be fully serviced before payment. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Cheers

That Tuscan looks stunning in that colour with the dark wheels.
As it's at a dealer, you will be paying a premium for the fact that it will have been well prepped & that there's a 12 month warranty included. Obviously if it was a private sale, you would be paying less.
I would check the service history to see what work has been carried out previously. I note that the car is on 25k. Check whether it has had a replacement clutch as they tend to last around 20-25k. Also check whether or not the car is on the standard shocks or whether these have been upgraded.
It might be a good idea to read through past threads on here & to read the S6 forum. I take it that the engine has not had a rebuild & therefore I would ask if their warranty covers this in the event of engine failure. Racing Green are well respected TVR specialists & therefore they should have sorted anything that needed doing.
Have fun if you decide to take the plunge!

If it has not had a rebuild & new clutch, I think its a bit expensive..
Try to find out more about the history.
By the way, I love the description: Electric Windows, Electric Door Mirrors, Removable Roof and Rear Screen, Alarm and Immobiliser, Remote Central Locking... I bet it is also a 2 seater....!!! :-)

They are 4 seaters! I regularly see on ebay "TVR Tuscan Floor Mat Set" with mats for front and rear footwells. You can also get waterproof seat covers for all 4 seats Try to find out more about the history.

Obvious but expect to pay more through trade.
Saying that yesterday i saw a 2004 via trade on autotrader for £15,500.
Good idea to check clutch replacement.
Taking that into account it looks good, try and get a guarantee from Racing Green.
And if your not sure get an independent technician to look it over.
Good luck and let us know what happens!

Thanks for the advice. It's not had an engine rebuild or a clutch replacement but they are carrying out a full service now to fix any little issues. The engine will also be under warranty for a year which will cover anything that I didn't do to it through neglect.
I realise something is only gonna be worth what someone wants to pay for it and if I'm happy paying that amount I should just go for it, I just don't want to be seriously ripped off without asking a few people who know about it first.
Still have a few things to consider first though as although the colour looks sweet, I think I'd prefer a gloss black one, noticed one was on sale here last week that looked perfect but unfortunately sold straight away. If anyone has a black tuscan (preferably s) that they're looking to sell on just give me a shout.

Engine rebuild can be hit and miss, depends how it's been treated/warmed up. It's a early engine though meaning there is more chance of a problem arising however if it's done 25,000 miles already, reasonable chance it's ok unless the servicing has been poor and missed any problems.
I would say clutch is on borrowed time, mine went at 20,000, so factor the cost of replacement, (£700 -£1000) before putting in any offer as even with a check up, it won't be picked up.
Looks nice but i'd be looking to pay a bit less but that's just me.

I think its a lovely looking car, but personally I wouldnt pay that price without a rebuild unless the Warranty is extended. A Year will pass quickly and then you will always be listening out for odd engine noises and wondering if you have a £6k bill on the way.
Clutch is circa £1000 fitted (i think) and the originals are prone to early failure.
make sure electrics all work (test and test again) heater ecu's can be problematic as can the electronics behind the dash pod.

I'm sure I'll be castigated for saying this, but for early S6 engines the rebuild question is "when", not "if". Even if the car has always been treated scrupulously, the shoddy and variable quality materials used in early engine parts mean that a rebuild some time before 60k miles is much more likely than not. Certainly much earlier than for a mass produced engine.
Even worse, an engine failure later in life will probably be in a manner which is easy to describe as wear-and-tear; search the forums for plenty of examples of this being used to deny warranty claims, so make sure there's either no wear and tear exclusion in the warranty (unlikely), or there's a specific note in writing to say that you'll be covered for an engine rebuild due to wear of original components.
Otherwise the car looks lovely, great colour combination. If it has a cast iron warranty on the oily bits it looks like a good buy; if not, it looks a bit expensive. Have a look at what TVR Power charge for an annual engine warranty policy to get an idea of what that's worth.

If I was in the market for a MK1 Tuscan I would be buying this one:

With a 3 year warranty on the engine and only 16000 miles on the car its a bit of a no brainer really. I've seen under this car and its mint throughout.

Cheers, more good advice. Talking of black ones...

Rebuild with warranty remaining but perhaps clutch could be an issue again... Looks good though ;-)

The Racing Green Tuscan appears overpriced given the lack of rebuild and clutch - UNLESS the warranty will cover the full cost of a rebuild (this will be 6k+). Most warranties will pay out between £500 and £2000 per claim with some offering multiple separate pay-outs. The TrackVRoad car seems to represent better VFM on the face of it. I bought a Tuscan without a rebuild and would not do this again - you may get lucky but why take the risk!

I hope you are on commission Dave!
Dropped off rear screen for Kevan at TvR for you to pick up. (Tell him to make it last more than just one race!)
