Key next to lighter?

Just found a key in a socket next to the lighter....what does it do?

Turns the immobiliser off. You are best off never touching it. It is made from tin foil and will fall apart.

Is the switch common for failing then I take it. And do most owners never use it?

Even the owners manual says never touch it - which makes you wonder why they bothered to put it there.

Sometimes you hear of people using it to cure the odd gremlin but that could be luck as much as anything

One of the first things I did when I got my Cerbera was to replace the toy switch with a good quality version, and put strain relief in the wiring behind it. Now I always turn it off if I am leaving the car for any length of time.

It was fitted to make the Cerbera comply with some piece of legislation which was in place at the time (possibly still is) which required cars to have a key to turn them off when they were started and stopped with a button.
