Slightly odd question but I'm currently writing some video game reviews. I'm not generally a fan of dance or electronic music but I've always thought the soundtrack to the obscure Playstation racing game Motorhead (nothing to do with the band) was superb. So what style of music would you call this?

Just need something more descriptive than "the soundtrack is excellent"

That's my point. I know it's from a game but it sounds like it is from a game rather than released for purchase on its own right.

Out of interest, what do you think of this? I know nothing about dance music, but love this song from a game.

Love the bit around the 1.20 mark.

I'd call it hardstyle, or an aggressive Hard House/Rave/NRG.

di.fm has it down as hardstyle but trancecore was what it used to be called, I thought?

Quite like that track as well, can imagine running around getting gibs to that.

On the subject of obscure yet brilliant game music:

Shame about the poor sound quality on Youtube videos though

Well, I quite like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb8PQXPOkCc because of what it represents (an amazing game; all the modes of transport you see in the intro can be controlled plus the game included the various scenarios - Wake Island, Omaha, Market Garden etc).

Similar reasons for the update: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUFJDVlxKZw *feels addiction cravings kicking in* hehe

Here is an excellent interactive guide to all dance music genre's:
http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/

(takes moment to load and looks a bit cheesy, but it's actually pretty good)

It's not entirely accurate, though. Look at stuff on the UK dance scene around 1990 - 2000. Some of it is just plain incorrect. And no, I wasn't off my face the entire decade so did notice what was what. Wait a sec. I mean, I have no idea what the music from the UK dance scene was like around 1990 - 2000 and you never have caught me dancing like I had a fit.
