Going to fit a GPS tracker to my car, but i'm just wondering if I should also fit a sticker as a deterrent.

The cars not rare or worth a massive amount (£3k, MG ZT), so doubt it would be stolen to order.

I'm just thinking that while the thought of being tracked would put off some theives - others may think the cars worth stealing, or the car may come back with half the interior ripped out when they try to find it...

I have a tracker, and I also have small sticker saying I do, for the reason that I would rather they didn't take it or attempt to take it in the first place and the Tracker might put them off.

If I had a Tracker but no sticker, there is a good chance that if the car was stolen and then found by the police, and returned to me, But I wouldn't want it. If it got stolen I would rather just have the money than my thrashed/damaged car back.

I look upon the tracker and sticker as a preventative measure, not a recovery method.

From the tracker manual: -

Q. Will my vehicle require TRACKER identification stickers?

A. No. A major security feature of the system is that the presence of the TRACKER unit is not disclosed to the thief.

In fact, identification stickers are an encouragement to thieves to damage the vehicle, as they may hurriedly attempt to locate the unit.

For this reason we also strongly advise that you use your discretion when notifying others that your vehicle has TRACKER fitted.

Sounds like a big no then.

yes

It's for this reason I don't have a sticker on mine.

I heard pro thieves were using GPS jammers as a matter of course when taking cars.

Don't most of the half-decent trackers broadcast on GPRS as well as GPS? Which is much harder to jam AFAIK.

so say you have a tracker and some dirt bag gets away in your car , will the police actualy jump in a car and trace it and catch the thives?

i know thats the idea but i cant see it somehow , might be worng but just imagine em noting it on the things to do later list

I think there is valid arguments for both.

1) They may be less likely to steal it in the first place ( you are more likely to get it back, but would you really want it back)

2) Tear it to shreds trying to get rid. Thieves could take action to hide the car or get rid before it can be tracked and less likely to find it
