My E39 came from the factory with those wheels on. Having said that I have see E36s with the same style of wheel, presumeably with a different hub fitment.

e39s are a bit "special" in the wheel department; the hubs are different, can't recall the specifics, but if you can I'd try them on before you buy. Best gen is probably here; http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/

E39 centre bore is a bit bigger than E36 (and others), so unless they're off an E39, no they won't fit.

Have a look on here.

Superficially they may look the same but the offsets on the E39 are way diferent to the others.

Whilst true, the offset isn't the big issue, the difference in centre bore is.

It is if you can't get the wheel on because it fouls the calipers or rubs on the wing, plus it messes with the suspension geometry.

Sure, but if these are E36 wheels you're trying to put on an E39 you'd cure the offset problem with spacers.

That won't, however, cure the fact that you won't get the wheel on the hub because the centre bore of an E36 wheel is too small for an E39. That's a machine shop job.
