The expansion tank cracked my on 330i auto

I replace it, but broke what I thought was a second thermostat at the bottom of the expansion tank during the process.

As it was broken, I took out the plastic sleeve and the spring to ensure nothing nasty floated around the cooling system

Since, I have found out that this part is the Automatic transmission thermostat, which currently is not present

My Question.

As this part is for regulating and heating (in cold weather) the transmission fluid, will the transmission be effected in anyway?

If its just for warming the oil I cant there would be much wrong, just go easy for 5 mins

BUT… does the transmission run at a cooler temperature than the coolant temp?

Does the Transmission thermostat restrict the flow of water in order for the transmission to heat up

Then allow full flow of water to keep it cool ?
