... when I call up to save myself a 200 mile round-trip to view a car, please don't advise me when I ask whether a car has any sign of rust or bodywork problems that "it does have heated leather seats" and only when I ask the question repeatedly admit there are "some small patches".

Also, the correct response to the question "has the cambelt been changed ?" is either yes or no. Not "it has a CD multichanger".

Not aiming to tar everyone with the same brush, just wanted to get that off my chest.

Your thread title is a misnomer. There is no such a thing.

Yes, "dear" can also mean "expensive".

How so?

I've seen plenty of dear used cars. Occasionally I spot cheap ones.

Why do people respond to posts like this with silly, puerile remarks? Ironically, these usually come from those with thousands of posts to their names (who should know better, one would have thought). Also, if you think a post is pointless or stupid, why would you keep it going with even more pointless replies?!

Anyway... in response to the OP; I feel your pain. I find the best dealers are those that physically walk around the car while you're on the phone to them and point-out every blemish so you have an accurate picture of the car's condition. Unfortunately, dealers like that are in the minority and most usually just 'gloss over' things and get defensive when pressed.

Maybe because the same topic has been posted thousands of times already? Maybe because dealers have just as many bad stories regarding customers?

I think the constant new threads on the same subject week in, week out is the main issue. Perhaps it's time to condense into one forum thread rather than have many different ones repeating themselves across the site.

People have been asking for a motor trade section for at least as long as I've been here. So it's within your gift.

Have they, in all seriousness it's the first I've heard of it. Tell me more?

Just for traders, or trade tales? If it's the latter it would make a huge dent on the content within GG (sheds, barges, what car to buy? etc)

OP here.

Just caught this thread again as last night I was the only poster (and in reality after I had lightened up a bit on the drive home I actually hoped it would have died without a trace), it wasn't an attempt at trolling just a (admittedly not very) humorous attempt at giving some members of the motor industry a bit of feedback.

Perhaps there could be a motor trade section but with some tight moderating to ensure it doesn't turn into the place to attempt to name & shame or generally just slag off industry members, as the irony is that without this board and the input I've seen / posts I've read about cars from dealers, traders etc I wouldn't have been asking half the questions I posed to the trader in question yesterday.

Jason - Neither is the irony that I actually spoke to you on the phone about a month ago (the car had already been sold but you gave me some pointers / buying tips on finding another similar model which was most appreciated) lost on me. I hope no offence was taken from my post.

No problem, I'm alway happy to bore someone half to death about cars.

Very good of you to say, and good of you to retract some of your comments.

Out of interest, which car did you call me about?

MX5 Phoenix.

I've been looking a while and couldn't find a decent Phoenix at a fair price but I'm picking up a Nevada on Saturday (subject to it matching the description).

Not seen it in the metal but the trader has described it to me over the phone in some detail so I've got a very good idea of what I'm getting (warts and all).
