My wife, my 2 yr old and I are looking for a holiday. Ideally abroad, with sun and warmth, (but not baking) and with enough to keep little one happy (sand), my wife happy (sand and good food) and me (Something educational / scenic and interesting, rather than just sun and sand. )
Don't mind driving.

Mallorca.

Stay in Cala D'Or so you have a choice of at least half a dozen beaches.
Palma offers you what you want plus there are loads of scenic places to go and see plus the Soller Railway from Palma.

I'd second Mallorca, but watch out for the planned Spanish air traffic controllers strikes causing chaos Easter/May/Whitsun bank hols. June is a good time, warmed up but not too hot for the little one.

Yes, this thretened Spanish airport action may cock up Spanish holidays from Easter onwards in which case your choice may be more limited as that will include the Canaries and the Balearics.
There is always Cyprus (though I found it rather disappointing myself)and I suppose Italy (not been there though).

Royan, France. (Right hand side of the Gironde). It's where French families go on holiday and is well set up with sandy beaches, warm shallow water, lots of cafés etc.

Get the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo and it's easily reachable in a day with a lunch stop at La Rochelle.

Royan itself is within day trip distance of Cognac, the lovely village of Talmont, Bordeaux, the atlantic coast at Arcochon, the Ile d'Oleron, vineyards etc, so lots to see.

Great, thanks.
I have been watching the news re the strikes. I like France, and love Bordeaux but the wife is not sure.
I will check it out though, and try to find enough info to convince her.
