Redirecting after login, why the front page?

Well, it's a small, but irritating thing to me.
After you've typed in p-i-s-t-o-n-h-e-a-d-s.c-o-m, then you go to the forum. Which doesn't log me in automatically even though it remembers me and I've said it should do that. Then you click on Login and go to the login screen where my user name/password already stands, click 'login' and then you're being forwarded to a new page saying something like 'you're now logged in', go to pistonheads'.
My point is, I go to the forum to write, but why am I being redirected to the front page of PH instead of just Gassing Station?

If you are clicking "Login" from the menu at the top then it doesn't know where you have come from, so can't send you back there.
If you just continue using the forums as if you were logged in, then when you click "My Stuff", "Reply" or anything else which requires a login then it will automatically forward you to the login box and when it does this it is able to track where you came from and there will be a "Return" option after you log in which will send you back there.

But a shame it isn't that obvious, to me that is.
