Id like tkd go to sweeden this year with the wife and kids. Weve had a hot beach holiday already and im keen to discover sweeden as i have a gut feeling that i will like the culture and people.
Question is , how should i make a family holiday of it, one that the kids will enjoy too (ages 4 & 9). What places should i visit and what things should i do ? Fly drive ? Have 2 main destinations and hotels ? any tips would be most welcome. I would go during the summer.

When I was a kid we went on family holidays around Europe by car and it was great.
I think going by car and taking the ferry across the Baltic sea (exciting for kids) into Sweden etc would be good fun (if a bit more difficult than just hopping on a plane).
I think its always nice to see the scenery gradually changing and to stop off in different countries along the way. It could be beneficial to the kids in an adventurey type way I think, making your way across Europe and feeling that sense of travel, rather than just stepping into and out of a metal tube.

What I was thinking of was maybe driving up through Europe and seeing some of that and catching the ferry across the Baltic sea, from Germany or Denmark to Sweden. Could be quite an adventure
One thing to bear in mind is that Stockholm is quite a long way north, although I have heard very good things about Malmo, which also happens to just be a few minutes across the bridge from Copenhagen.

Gothenburg is awesome in the summer- and much cheaper/friendlier than Stockholm.
Loads to do in and around Gothenburg, including Liseberg (amusement park in the centre of the city). Go north up the Bohuslan coast- plenty of seaside towns, places to swim (water is warmish and safe) e.g. Marstrand, Lysekil. Alternatively, go out to Saltholmen and explore some of the islands.
Plenty of freshwater lakes around whic everyone goes to swim in and have BBQs at- again, water is super clean and warm.
You could even fit in a bit of PH type activity- Volvo museum in Gothenburg (Hisingen) and Saab museum north of GBG in Trollhattan.

During the summer the Harwich-Esbjerg ferry prices get stupid in my opinion return crossing about £900-£1000.
Ok if you want to make it part of your vacation, but consider that it takes 18 hours and the Dana Sirena is an ex ro-ro freight ferry, in fact it still carries a fair bit of freight. It isn't like the big new ferries, facilities are OK but limited.
You can cover long distances as the roads are so empty but then perhaps not with small kids.
Why not try renting a stuga which is a sort of holiday chalet with reach of somewhere interesting, GBG is as good as anywhere, and just chill.
