I feel I should apologise for this before the off but I'm finally ready to once again buy something that I'd like to take a bit of pride in and clean on the odd Sunday.

Having driven work horses for the last five years I'm now in a job which doesn't require me to drive much. My commute is a 40 mile round trip a day and I do it about 2-3 times a week. I've got two young babies almost and a five series that the wife drives.

I'd still ideally like something where we can use the baby seats so not a strict two seater. Budget really around early 30s. What do I get, not really interested in a C Class coupe (my dad has one), not into a A5 a bit common, no to a three series coupe.

Don't fancy an M3 because I've had an E46 and my mate has an E92 which whilst it's a great car not really that much different to what I've had before.

I'm down to two options in my mind but I'd take other suggestions. 997 but an early one, my heart says this is the way to go if only to keep it for a year. What are the running costs of one of these? Other than that a 635d they're good value for money ok very different but I like it that they're not massively common. Anyone who has experience or a good suggestion of something else please add a suggestion.

Oh an Vantage I'd love one but I just know the running costs would be prohibitive.

Thanks
