The youngest you can get a child into something car like?
Discussion
What's the youngest you get a kid into something car related? I'm not talking about watching motor sport, I'm talking about actually doing something eg Go Karting
For example you can get a kid on skis from the age of 3.
Is there a go karting track that would take them at that age?
What is the youngest you could buy them an electric car?
I have a 15 month toddler (girl) who I really want to get into cars as young as possible and was thinking about buying her an electric one for the garden but the Mrs says she's too young.
Can the PH massive give me an inspiration on what I could do?

IMO I'd rather get my kids into something that involves exercise (unless I was prepared to see it through as far as Lewis Hamilton's dad did...). MiniBill has had a succession of trikes and is now on a balance bike, and the summer before last aged 18 months we went to France and the first thing he did at each campsite was find the biggest hill to ride down
We're now working on sorting his target fixation (I don't care WTF other parents think in the park
)

my daughter was 4 when i bought her a 12v electric jeep. I'd say that is about as young as you can go as they don't really have much of a concept of what to do with it otherwise.
depending upon how much of a chav you are you could get her a mini moto from about the age of 6. You don't need any land for this, just send her across the precinct and back!
other than that, bambino karting at your local kart centre from the age of 5, with racing from the age of 6, for cars, there is the under 17 car club which takes kids from the age of 12, at that age I think you can do autocross, from 14 junior grass track, or junior rallycross or even some circuit racing.
that is assuming you don't live on a farm, in which case as soon as she is old enough to reach the pedals you can get her a car to drive in.
however try not to impose your ambitions onto your daughter, you'll only make her and you unhappy.

Probably a selfish one but she does love going out in my Aston - there is a big grin on a her face when I give it some beans
My (23 month old) daughter loves going out in my £800 fiat.. I think it's just the new experience and different view point.. I'm crossing my fingers though..Berw said:
When I lived in the UK last (14years ago) had the same question with my sone, you had to be 12 to get in a petrol engined go kart at out local track, but they had electric ones you could rent from the age of 8.
Buckmore Park do electric from age 4, and petrol karts from age 8, but there is a minimum height requirement (which is very sensible as you must have your knees bent to drive one safely).http://www.buckmore4kids.co.uk/content.php/21020
The electric carts are pretty tame though
I bought my son a Ride on ferrari for his second christmas, best thing about it is that it comes with a remote control so at 2 when he was too young to drive it on his own so I drove it for him but now he's older he can drive it himself.
Here's some pictures,

I think a PH'er on here sells something similar as his business maser_spyder
ride on cars
Hopefully Maser doesn't mind me posting a link but these cars are brilliant
please excuse my sons wayward hair he's a right awkward bugger when it comes to getting a haircut

Agree with you on that, we bought our son an electric quad when he was about 2.
I stuck him on it in the park, only to realise after about 30 seconds that he had no concept that he was doing anything other than being pushed along. He couldn't grasp what was going on. The quad is still unused in the shed.

That's the badger - great idea with the remote control. I'll have a look to see if they do an offroad version for the gardenHere's some pictures,

He loves it!, maser has 4x4 on the site too.Does your son like driving it?
I'm looking at getting the sports mini for my daughter.
As you said the remote control is a brilliant idea, also if you look at the picture at the rear of the car where the engine cover is there's a sound system you can plug your ipod/iphone/blackberry etc into it and play music through the car

I've just ordered the 12v Jeep:-

Gets delivered tommorrow! Hours of fun this weekend (well for me, maybe not for her!)
Our little one had a ride on trike for his second birthday - took about 6 months to get the hang of it but once he understood the pedal made him go he had great fun.
He turned 4 at Christmas and has 'upgraded' to a pedal go kart. I have already taught him how to do a handbrake turn in the concrete yard behind our flat
J turns are next.

As some have said, I wouldn't push them into anything. For example you can get a kid on skis from the age of 3.

My kids do a bit of karting now, but I just took them along on a family day and let them have a go. They both loved it, but not to the point where they want to be Lewis Hamiton, I just offer to take them when the arrive and drive days occur (only on days where there is an adults session though

They have also both driven a shogun at Diggerland which they loved. This is actually a good place to let them have a go at driving quite a few things, especially as they can sit on dads lap and do the steering while dad operates the pedals.
My 12yo has also driven a JCB there

I was 3 when my dad bought me my first motorbike. At 11 I asked santa for a bmx bike and then had to learn how to cycle it as I was used to changing gears with a clutch!!
I am very glad dad got me into car's and bike's at an early age and if it ever happens it will be something I will also do for my child.
