Just a quick one - JLP Bonus announcment has always been looked upon with interest by many big businesses.
18 percent announcment today, with JL reporting profits rising 20% in their last trading year! Waitrose also reporting a very decent increase in sales/profits!

And well done to them. One of the only shops I can think of that still offers customer service, the staff speak fluent english, you can take things back without argument and they sell quality products that last longer than a couple of months. I cant think of anywhere you get that service.

Totally agree. I mock my in-laws for buying pretty much everything they buy from there but the service is superb. Same goes for Waitrose too - you perhaps pay a bit more, but both are spot on and they deserve to be recognised, even if that is by way of a bonus which no doubt some will moan about.
I'd only buy there for their warranty, otehr than that I see no difference.
The service is ok, you still get clueless kids wandering round the floor with no clue what to do or say. The same with the whole supermarket argument really, people have to keep justifying why they've paid over the odds for something.

I couldnt agree less. I normally shop in our local Sainsburys and, while they're not a bad bunch, the service I get from the Waitrose is a step above.The service is ok, you still get clueless kids wandering round the floor with no clue what to do or say. My local waitrose is better than the Sainsbury;s and light years ahead of Tesco's.They don't change the item location every 2 weeks to tempt shoppers to buy things they don't need. The staff on the meat and fish counter know their stock and are always willing to help with recipe suggestions. the fish counter is always well stocked. And when the till assistants ask you how you are or they seem genuinley interested, they also chat about weekend plans etc. It's just the little things that make it better.
It's not vital but really adds to the shopping experience. i also find that the veg and fish is far better than other supermarkets, the meat is also excellent (however we have a South African buthers nearby that is the best I have ever been to so any special cuts come from there)

Waitrose is worth the extra, mostly because for 90% of their goods there is no extra cost and the complete and utter lack of people who shop at my local Tesco.The service is ok, you still get clueless kids wandering round the floor with no clue what to do or say. I dont give a rats arse how snobbish that sounds. My local Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys are all big hyperstore places that are Godawful experiences each and every time. Crowded, loud, screaming kids, have to fight your way down every isle. Waitrose is quiet, clam and everybody is polite.
In the hell that is shopping, Waitrose is an island of paradise.

Funny you mention that, the fella on the checkout this morning was speaking about his bonus as the lady in front of me was asking him about it, saying "well done you"....and then she went on to say how terrible bankers bonuses were and how they simply don't deserve it.Roo said:

Bearing in mind Waitrose price match virtually all items against Tesco it doesn't cost much more at all.If nothing else Waitrose has better looking staff, though i'm not sure that is worth paying a premium for. Frankly, i couldn't care less if Jabba-The-Hutt was at the till when i'm getting my bog roll and crisps.

As said by DJC, if my sainsburys was a hell pit full of chavs, I'd go elsewhere, because that pisses me off, but at the minute its fine.
