Hello.

I have just come back from a two week journey, before which i disconnected the battery on my 1999 rover 420.

I thought upon my return it would be a clear case of connecting it up again and away we go. The batteries in the blippers were dead when i bought the car so i have just been using the key. i have tried the handbooks reset thingy of three turnd of the drivers door lock this way six turns that way but no joy.

Can i not over ride the immobiliser? yes i know this is in situ to stop car thieves but there must be a way. I have disconnected the alarm switch which stops the horn going off but engine wont turn over due to immobiliser.

Help!

erm, can you not just replace the batteries, will probably cost you less the £3 and save you a lot of messing around? or am I missing somthing.

Yeah i thought that too regarding the blippers but apparently once they die they need reprogramming.

Why did you disconnect the battery for just a two week period?!

Rover 420? Clearly its the Headgasket laugh

Try new batteries in the remote.
Then try lock / unlock on fob button, then lock/unlock door with key.
Also try boot lock (open/lock) etc.

If no joy, you must have the wrong code for manual entry, key in door stylee?

Been out trying the manual over ride key in door code. No joy. Bought a new battery for handset. No joy. No flashing lights when i blip the keyfob.
when i disconnected the battery did the immobiliser possibly reset the manual over ride?
Also now when i open the door the alarm does not go off even with the fuse for it in.

Totally lost.

Is the car battery connection good? Its just that when fault finding it may be worth checking the stuff you connected and disconnected, before trying anything else.

The 2ltr T-series uses 3as immobiliser system which CAN be bypassed to the point of how you had it previously where you didnt need to use the fob. What has happened is that removing the battery/power from the immobilizer has reset it and made it default back to its original state as an immobilizer.

Try: new battery in fob, connect up the battery in the car. Then get into the car and turn the key to ignition(car should get upto this point but not turn over if you try turning it to crank). Press the lock button 6 times, then unlock 6 times then lock once. If that works, the car should lock and unlock using the central locking. If it doesnt work, try it again but just keep pressing lock/unlock buttons a few times. If you still are stuck and cannot sort it, goto:

register and ask in the correct section and you might have somebody local who doesn't mind having a look for you(I would but I live in southport and nobody else on PH does it seems!)

The car is a write-off. Buy a new one.

No flashing red light but the interior alarm is going off but not the exterior loud one. I put the alarm fuse back in as it operates the doors from the fob etc.

Probably a stupid suggestion... but is there enough power in the battery to start the car?

Might be worth trying a jump start.

Yeah i checked the battery and its fine. All lights illuminate fully but its the interior alarm that is the giveaway i think. So annoying!

Plus it would be turning over if it wasn't the immobiliser.
