Battery light on

Hello gents,

Started the Cerbera for the first time in 3 months at the weekend, and i've been met by a battery light on the dash (car has been on accumate trickle charge the whole time). I find it a little odd, since it's not been anywhere! Can't say I noticed if it was on before!

Any common culprits for causing this? I've had spurious battery lights on other cars that were due to non-charge related faults.

After running it for 10 mins (needed to shuffle stuff about behind it) and putting it back on trickle charge the charger went onto maintenance within 10 seconds and has been ever since so it must be satisfied with the voltage from the alternator.

With the engine running at 1500rpm or higher, measure the voltage across the battery terminals. It should be 13.5v or thereabouts. If it's similar to the voltage you seen with the engine off (eg ~12v) then it's not charging (100amp fuse is first port of call). If it is charging ok, check your oil pressure (and sender) as it has been known for the charging circuit and oil pressure idiot lights to have their wiring swapped.

My battery light used to come on. Reconditioned the alternator but it was still the same. Turned out that someone in the past, had put the warning lights back the wrong way round so it was a 'sender unit' for the oil that was at fault (or whatever it was...lol). £10 to change.

Is your rev counter all over the place? If so likely to be Big Fuse issue.
