Firstly, apologies if this has been covered before.

I was just wondering if the recent influx of fuel efficent cars is driving up fuel duty due to people getting such high mpg these days.

My dad recently swapped his 34mpg Corolla in for a 55-60mpg fabia, and a number of people i know have done or are intending to do similar.

If so many people are using at least a third less fuel, is the government just pushing up duty in order to compensate for this?

Stephen.

Fuel efficient cars have been around for years. The price of fuel rises, manufacturers cotton on and the marketing departments go crazy.

The new marketing craze is a result of rising fuel prices, not the cause IMO.
