So, it seems there's loads of people on here who hate filling up on a regular basis.
I hadn't noticed before, but the Top Gear Magazine now includes 'range' as one of the data points in the new car section at the back.
It transpires that if you drive 'at' the combined mpg, there is one car where you can now do 1000 miles on a single tankful.

The Peugeot 508 1.6 eHDi 112 with a possible 1017 miles

2nd - BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics at 925 miles

I've never got why people don't fill up to the brim. It's as if it's somehow cheaper to buy £20 at a time. At least if you brim it you can spot if it starts to do fewer miles to a tank and then check out what's causing it.

1k miles to a tank. Imagine having to only fill up once a month but still do the average mileage. Nice

edit to add = I have done that myself in it.

And to think I was impressed getting over 500.

Are these figures achievable in the real world? Whats the highest mileage anyone has had from a single tank?

Y2blade is winning with 800.

I say winning; it's not a game. There's no prize.

A 306 HDI will do over 700 miles to a tank without running dry on real world A / B road runs.

250-300 miles around town which will last me 2-3 weeks on a run 400-450. Would love a car to do 1000miles on a tank i woundnt need to fill it up for 6-8 weeks.

Its great to have that kind of range but how big are the tanks on these things!!

I could convert my boot into a fuel tank and get 1k from it...............maybe??

Its all very interesting but very pointless. I would imagine the top gear miles to tank stats have been used in many after conference pub arguments!

The 3 series will have a tank capacity of 63 litres, so nothing special.

If I fill up half a tank it only costs £45 which is entirely reasonable.

A full tank is £90 which to me is excessive. wink

I thought that sounded hopelessly optomistic.

My Audi 80 1.9Tdi would get 600 miles to a tank (65l tank).
The Skoda Fabia 1.4 Tdi would do 650 miles between fill ups from a 45 - litre tank - seriously impressive range/economy.

The 328i does about 400 miles from 65 litres! Fun though....

My car has a theoretical range of about 460 miles from 35 litres getmecoat

Also a big fan of filling to the brim because I found one of my old cars ran like crap if it was near empty. Couldn't afford to fill the Laguna to the brim when I had it at nearly £90 a tank though (rather tried to fill it from half full instead biglaugh)

Well if it can reach those figures on one tank that is impressive! A very different car i know and not built for the same things but i have a 60ltr tank and scrape 350 miles out of it at very best!!

280 miles, fill it to the brim every 4 days.

It doesn't really bother me at all as i get to buy sweeties and depending on who is working the till I might get to look at some breasts.

The Alfa can do less than 200 miles to a tank (~70 quid). On a run it's more like 340.

If I use the Lotus to get places rather than for fun, I end up filling it quite often. It appears to have a fuel handbag, rather tan a tank.

Who would want to drive 1,000 miles without going to a petrol station! I find my M3's 250 mile range is perfect for coffee, smoke and piss stops.... wink
