I have been thinking of buying an R8 for some time now and keeping an eye on prices - whilst I was in the UK up until early 2010 and since moving to the US.

Why do they never seem to depreciate??!! Pricing seems exactly the same as it was 1 year ago - cars are a year older, pricing hasn't moved.

I can buy a similar year 997 GT3 for less money.

Are R8's the new NSX in terms of keeping high residual values forever more??

I wish I'd stretched and bought one back in October 2008 when I purchased my T350. They were going for mid to late 40s and are now up to late 50s/early 60s.

Off topic I know, but I'd be straight into a GT3 over an R8 V8. Make it a V10 however and I'd need to have a scratchchin

less people with disposible income for a new one but happy to go for an older one due to the better perceived reliablity being an audi supercar?

To be honest its very tempting - only concern will be its my daily driver to / from work. For some reason I feel the R8 is more special though, probably because of the way it looks vs the 911 shape which is so commonplace on the roads.

As MrDemon said, without doubt they have depreciated over the last year. Five months ago I was shocked to see there were five examples for sale <£60,000. Double that now, with some listed sub £55k, and that's the pre-haggled price!

Fair point. As a daily the R8 makes sense, the GT3 does have quite a hard ride for a daily (I would live with it however) but the R8 suits the role perfectly.

Cheapest one in the US (across the whole country) is $100,000 plus state tax - 6% where I live in CT, so £65,000.

There are only 85 for sale across the whole of the US, combination of both V8 and V10 models! Audi really have kept supply to a minimum.
