I'm tired of reading about fuel prices in a negative light (quite obviously, it's a negative thing for the majority of the population).

There must be some of you rag-tag lot looking at the increased prices with wide-eyed glee, hoping that a whole myriad of exciting uneconomical options suffer price drops and find their way into your garage.

So, is anyone intending to do some shopping and add something interesting to their fleet?

Yes. I'm thinking jag xjr.
Might be nice if anyone who spots a "fuel crisis bargain" posts it here.
I doubt anything exotic will turn up but there may be some nice v8s from Germany.

Yep- looking at buying another Jag StypeR.
Two i have been looking at have been at dealers for 3 months. One even has a pic of the car surrounded by snow, which was presumably December. Must be a deal to be had there with gogo juice at £7 a gallon for superunleaded?

I'd have thought things like the Monaro and VXR8 will have a fairly decent sized lump taken out of them.

fuel crisis bks

fecking bankers (yes, them) turning an ever-increasing product (no peak oil yet) with falling demand into a futures investment and spiralling the price to ridiculous levels

sub 10k 6 series'
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2581096.htm

also some sub 30k bentley gt's

cayenne turbos
sl's

etc etc etc

trouble is they are getting to the point where if you ask me what i'd like as a daily runner, all things paid EXCEPT for fuel a golf bluemotion or a 645i I would say thanks for the offer, i'll have the bluemotion.

driving 100 miles in some of these cars would cost around £35 - I did 400 miles yesterday so that's £140. It would be around £40 in the golf and i'd pocket the £100 change for a couple of restaurant meals with wine thanks

Back in the day you could barely give away cars like the E-type and Jensen Interceptor during the 1970s fuel crises.

My guess is that Q7/X6/Cayenne turbo will become very, very cheap.

I've been lucky enough to achieve a dream and enjoyed 16 mpg out of this over the last few months
Got a great deal on it as well.

If you can buy the car...and afford the depreciation...I don't think a few pence on a litre of fuel will stop anyone from driving their exotic motor?

The 2001 average UK price for super unleaded petrol was £0.835/litre and there were 26 million cars registered for use on UK roads...so the price of fuel has increased by 53% over the last 10 years and there are now 31 million private cars registered for use on UK roads.

So on balance...the price of fuel has not dampened our love affair with the car?

I think some cars with "token" large engines and little else to offer will dump in price (but they always have done) - I think the car road tax changes have done far worse harm. But then again (as seen on another thread) you could waste your money on a £35k diesel golf or £23k on a Prius with your own money and lose just as much without the entertainment.

Some car prices have firmed up over 2 years ago.

Mazda RX8, a friend in the trade has just taken in an 05 RX8 for £2k that has to be a cheap trackday tool!

Though I think I'd just squeeze a Toyota JZ engine into if one arrived on my doorstep that cheap hehe

Cayenne V8s are still over £10k, Turbos over £15k.

Much as I would like one of these I'd only consider buying one when they fall below the £5k mark, limiting the losses if there's an engine failure or something like that.

Saw a Mazda dealer packing an 08 RX8 off to auction the other day so I assume they don't sell well at all now.

For a nice cruiser, I am keeping my eyes on the latest gen 7 series in 760iL guise.

445BHP, over 100k new with some toys on it, now coming down towards 12-15k.

Slap a cheapo plate on it and waft around with all and sundry thinking you piss oil for a living biggrin
