Im having gear selection problems on my 1986 3.2 carerra and its driving me mad, there is no pattern to it at, all one minute it's fine the next gearchange its difficult hot, cold it makes no difference. as this is my first porsche i have nothing to compare it with , i would describe it as clutch drag but how do i know when the clutch is on its way out? there is no evidence of slip when gunned ive been told it could be worn syncro's but wouldnt this mean a problem all the time?

If it's a 915 box it could well de the clutch selector fork which will have worn/seized.

If it "snicks" when changing to 2nd or 3rd, chances are high it is synchros. All 915s in my experience snick into 1st gear, mind.

Finally it is worth checking out that the clutch pedal is operating freely and that the rods that pass from the pedal to the passenger side aren't gummed up.
