A travellers' camp run by a star of TV’s Big Fat Gypsy Weddings is under investigation by council chiefs.
About £1m has been collected in rent over the last 12 years from the site on Duchy Road, Salford, where TV star Paddy Doherty is caretaker.
Salford council, which owns the land, has an agreement with Mr Doherty and the Gypsy Council to run the site.
Under the agreement, which was renewed in 1998, Mr Doherty collects rent from the tenants – estimated to total £70,000 a year.
The agreement states the rent should then to be used to maintain and run the site. But after Mr Doherty’s appearance on the TV programme and a high-profile court case, Salford council, has started a probe.
The M.E.N. understands the investigation centres on how rent collected from the 30 pitches is being spent.
No doubt this is simply a misunderstanding and the money is being wisely spent on maintaining the 'traveller' site as opposed to buying brand new Audis each and every year. I'm sure this will all be cleared up swiftly and no wrongdoing will be found.About £1m has been collected in rent over the last 12 years from the site on Duchy Road, Salford, where TV star Paddy Doherty is caretaker.

The term you're looking for is 'traveller', 'pikey' would infer some negative connotation toward said individual
The management have spoken and we can no longer use the 'P' word: http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...And sorry for the more sensible posts that have been lost in the chop but I felt it would be preferable to start again.
Cheers.
There are two types of traveller, those who move on when they choose and leave the area tidy, and those who move on when the pickings get to slim and the mess they have created is too big. The offensive banned term applies to the sort who make a living lifting items that don't belong to them.
One point, the site manager would have to be fairly daft to appear on TV if he was doing anything too dodgy. Especially as they allowed other, "Travellers" most of whom seemed a little to static, to not be shown or named on TV.

You do realise the majority of these travellers can't read or write and therefore are not the sharpest knives in the draw? One point, the site manager would have to be fairly daft to appear on TV if he was doing anything too dodgy. I'm sure this bloke was on "Danny Dyers Hardest Men" in the last year or so?
Yes he was.Mind you I must admit I am still a fan of travellers tbh. They have strong family values and ignore the statist scum that are in charge of our horrid country.
Given a decent bit of education they could be immensely useful citizens ya know!

"A lot" might, but through family I know what their usual education is (no, I'm not a traveller - an aunt is a famous, maybe the most famous, educational psychologist!) It is similar to saying Chavs represent the general UK population.
Trust me they're mostly rubbishly educated.

Of the ones I have met over the past few days, they are all taught history and numeracy extremely well.Trust me they're mostly rubbishly educated.
That goes for all the ones I see in the caravan and lodge industry, which is the sector I see every week.
