Mary was on the radio this morning, she is backing a new scheme starting today, where they take schoolkids down the morgue to see dead people from car crashes.

This is to shock tactic them into driving slowly to avoid crashes. as 'lots of people die in car crashes every year'

so, start saving up, because the law suits for "physcological damaged children in later life due to brakes ill advised stupidity" syndrome, is coming to a law court and out of your taxable wages soon..

small point mary : school kids can't drive, so your not really targeting the right people... maybe people involved in crashes, 3 points, week's community service in a morgue is a better idea?

maybe targeting the 2/3 of accidents/deaths that where speed wasn't the contributary factor? what about having a word with the 3 pillocks I encountered yesterday who all swapped to the other side of the road to overtake parked cars, forcing me into a head on collision panic braking moment?

If they do want to shock/traumatise the youngsters, how about showing them those who stepped into the road without looking? (The biggest cause of pedestrian accidents - you must know that, Mary)

Good point thub
like I said a while ago
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GREEN CROSS CODE?

Bring back the pencils and adverts.
Much better and cheaper then taking young children to morgues.

Hope you are reading this BRAKE becuase Im serious. Better Education for ALL road users is the way forward. Why not push better driving school practice, tiered driving tests to include motorway leasons etc.

BRAKE, please pay attention.
Feel free to email me via my profile too.

I'm sorry - but I'll speak my mind here:

They are attempting to brainwash the kids into emotionally blackmail the drivers on the roads.

Plain and simple.... AND WRONG

Lets look at the real facts and not the lentilist emotional claptrap.

Interested to know how many deaths/injuries occur on the pavement.

When I was young I was taught the green cross code and got to respect it. It's been with me all my life and I consider myself to be good at crossing the road. I certainly don't walk in the road when there's a pavement available.

This is kids stuff.

Why don't brake actually concentrate on EDUCATING the pedestrians to stay on the pavement and cross when its suitable and for the drivers to have a higher level of awareness.

It's just that simple.

Children seeing homeless drunks on the pavement puts them off drinking does it?

Utter madness.

This country has well and truly gone to the dogs.

A random example - pedestrian injury numbers from 2001 West Midlands accident review. (www.ringroad.org.uk - thank you)

Cause fatal/serious/slight/total
Fail to conform to traffic sign/signal 0/15/51/66
Reversing negligently 2/10/98/110
Crossing masked by stationary vehicles 0/46/155/201
Other error or negligence 7/36/178/221
Step, walk or run from footpath 21/305/1038/1364

"It is clear from these figures that the most dominant problem has been the errors by the pedestrians themeselves. Step, walk or run from footpath had 1364 accidents in which it was recorded as the first causation, with 21 of those invloving a fatality. The top causation codes have not changed from those presented last year."

Aunty Mary appears to have gone further into la-la land!

Am ex-Brake member ! Aunty Mary stooped to all time low tactic over speed cameras and even dared suggest publicity over my own injuries "as example of injuries caused by speed" - except that it had nothing to do with speeding driver and everything to do with freak incident.

This current tactic is yet another example. Advert campaign showing dangers of careless parenting and undue care when crossing a road is one thing. Taking children to a morgue in attempt to indoctrinate hatred of motor car can only create deep emotional and pyschological damage which will surface in later life! Will it educate them to think before crossing a road? Unlikely!

This woman really needs to get her act together, quit the histrionics and the drama queen bit - especially when her daft ideas get the justified criticism they deserve!

Mary - stop taking those stress pills! They are affecting you! BADLY!

On the radio this morning (some local one, can't remember which) they said that the initiative was aimed at teenagers just about to start driving in an attempt to show them the effects of driving dangerously. Excess speed wasn't mentioned once which is a shame as I had already started ranting when Ms Williams came on. Excess speed wasn't mentioned by her either (at least in the clip they played), rather it focussed on driving in a safe manner.

bga, the clip I heard, had mary clearly suggesting speed is the problem, and the initiative is to reduce deaths from speed.

I thought DIY was a bigger cause of death and injury?

How about trips to B&Q to show kids the evils of power tools?

Here's an idea - what about putting the film of George Orwell's "1984" on the school curriculum so the kids will know the danger of state control?

Oh Mary you silly moo, when will you learn to close that big mouth of yours?

Kids WILL NOT be put off anything unless they want to be. The only reason they'll start to drive more sensibly is when they grow out of it or when they decide enough is enough. Sorry but it's a fact.

So Mary wants 16-17 year olds I presume going to the morgue to look at dead bodies.

I'm sorry, but this gal needs to wake up and smell the Korfee.

Imagine it.......

Theoretically Mary could have said:
Kids this is a dead body, take a look now.

I SAID take a look [Mary shoving kids head into blood clotted ripped open body cavity]

Now thats what happen if you own a car.

I remember as a schoolkid going on trips to the cinema and seeing other kids from 'rival' schools there.

Ohh the organised scraps in the toilets we used to have. What fun.

I fear Mary's Morgue visits would result in less leaving the morgue than entering, and a few more bodies on the slab.

When I was 15 a trip to the morgue would have been well cool!!! Dead bodies and stuff, awesome!

Would it have put me off? No way. When you are that age, you believe you are invincible and only living long enough to grow older will change that.
