My project car stheap has a sump gasket on the way out.

OEM service manual specifies that the sump gasket should be renewed with liquid gasket, and this has been confirmed by my local auto factors taht there is no standard gasket for this car.

Any particular brand recommendations on here? - Loctite (5569?) is being banded around a bit with a brief look through the internet.

Cool. Can you define "plenty" of time - we talking overnight or a couple of hours?

Edited link to show a UK supplier as I couldn't find one for you quickly
a couple of hours is fine, longer the better having done 300TDI sumps a few times on different cars,
decent stuff and never leaked afterwards.
