E63 M6 buyers guide - does one exist?

I'm considering replacing my current car with an M6 towards the end of the year. When they came out I considered them hideous but they've really aged well and, what with the prices being so low and those 500 horses calling to me...well, it'd be rude not to.
However, I will admit to knowing very little about them. I've had a quick search of the forums but I came back empty handed. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good buyers guide?

Buy the newest, lowest mileage car you can afford in a colour you like and make sure it has a BMW warranty. That's it really. There aren't any must have options to worry about as the car comes basically fully loaded, some people like the full merino leather though and that was a very expensive option when new (something like £5k).
I agree the price of petrol is not helping these type of cars at the moment, but nothing and i mean nothing is better than a £25-30k M6 on the road.
It has everything that I want in a car and I just can't see what to replace it with, without spending nother £15-20k on top of my car in P/ex.
I rather use some of that £20k for petrol and keep the rest in the bank.
Make sure it comes with warranty, but remenber as long as the car has less than 60k miles you can buy a private one and add BMW warranty on for about £55 per month.
Good car and maybe the right time to pick up a bargain.

Great car. I can't imagine what I'd replace mine with that wouldn't cost me another 30k at least. The looks have grown on me massively and I think it a very handsome car. See very few around too. Get the full leather and its a very special cabin, great seats and sound system. Nav is fine, just make sure the software gets updated to the most recent version.
Look out for failed illuminated door sills, peeling lacquer off wheels/badly refurbed wheels, discs that need replacing soon and get the warranty.

I honestly used to think that too but of late my feelings have completely changed. It's brutalist design, admittedly, but the presence of the thing is undeniable.In regard to the BM warranty; is this more down to the car being expensive to work on/the bits being expensive or it being a bit brittle? It certainly looks like it was hewn from something very solid (and having owned BM's in the past; there's not much out there as reliable).

I don't think it's any more brittle than any other BMW, but there are a lot of electronics on board, and by the time its a 5 year old car things start to go wrong a bit.. Also, I imagine any serious engine work will be a BIG bill. Feels like a brilliantly built car to me. Might be a keeper, although I thought I'd only run it for a year when I bought it.
What's the general consensus on manual vs. automatic in these things? I'd imagine that, with all that power, the clutch must take quite a pounding.
Edit - one other question; how much difference (if any) does the 'power button' make to the MPG for general driving?
