First MOT coming up in my ownership.

'5 has an offset, square numberplate, which I believe are not legal? Seller (OnlyMX5's) got it through before I bought it using a broom handle slotted between holes in the front air dam, which then balanced the old number plate on...

...do you need to know the MOT chap to get away with this or will I be fine?

Mine is physically too small and the font is also slightly too small and mine sailed through the MOT! Not even a mention and this was the first time I had been to the garage!

MOTs always depend on how the garage is feeling, and I believe with numberplates they can be exceptionally varied. My mum had a smeared number or two, caused by water, on her numberplate for about 8 years and it passed an MOT before one particular garage decided they didn't like it!

Lots of people have MX5's with the offset numberplates and they have no problems.

I wish I could use one, but I have 6 holes in my front bumper and no towing eye frown

Why would you fail for it being offset?

If an offset number plate is an MOT fail then there should be far fewer Alfas and Evos out there!

Er, "standard import size square plate". According to the place I bought it from.
