I rang my insurer today to notify them of a change address as my renewal is due at the end of this month. The 'change of address' wasn't far, simply across the road. I can quite literally throw rocks at the old house. At the same time, I asked them to give me the quote for my renewal.

Broker: "Certainly... we can offer it to you at the great price of £2300+". (I forget the quote down to the exact penny).

I immediately burst out laughing.

Me: "Sorry, but that's well over £1100 more than last years premium"

Broker: "one second, let me speak to someone"

So off he goes to speak to his supervisor

Broker: "I'm sorry Mr Oakey, it appears this is the best price we can do, unfortunately your change of address has affected this years premium"

Me: "Oh really? So by now being on the other side of the road you want an extra £1100+ from me?"

Broker: "It's a high risk area"

Me: "Higher risk than the opposite side of the street?"

Broker: "Sorry, that's what the computer says"

Me: "Goodbye"

since owning the 350z I've never had the same insurer twice. Every year someone will quote me around £1000, and the following year their premium will double, or treble. I take it repeat custom isn't something their interested in and 'car insurance' is more like 'gambling' on roulette? They took a chance on me, they've had my money, now I can fk off. That's basically it yeah?

Let me guess, did you tell them you were planning to park your vehicle in the opposite direction as to last year? hehe

Insurance costs have increased by a large amount this year but I'm surprised it changed so much for a change of addres across the street, is across the road still in the same postcode or a different one?.

It's the same postcode, it's probably about 30metres distance. Probably not even that.

I understand costs are going up but to try and imply those costs have risen by over £1100 simply due to a change of address is an insult and demonstrates the contempt insurers show towards their customers.

He could have come up with any plausible explanation, but no, he came out with that bks.

In general it sums up the contempt shown by different parts of this country. Insurance been a small part of it.

Example, went into my local city. For 3 and a half hours parking I was charged £7.80. No wonder city centre retailers are struggling.

Mmm interesting, prices only usually change with postcode, i've never seen and increase when the 1st line of the address was changed.
Although I suppose it does vary per insurer.

Ok based on that I would say they have a pricing error, I would have asked for them to check the sustem was rating correctly.

Unfortunately it was a 'computer says no' scenario and the monkey on the other end of the phone didn't appear to want to apply any common sense.

Bizarre, If i'd made that change I would have noticed something was probably wrong!.

couldn't you just have said that you will keep parking the car at the old address?

Just had exactly the same response asking how I'm supposed to insure a car for theft when they won't cover it without a Tracker, but I can't fit a Tracker till I've bought the car?

So if I'm driving it home from the seller and that night it disappears, I can't claim becasue "there's no Tracker fitted".

"Computer says no".

Let's face it here, they pull these figures out of their arse. Knowing this, the salesmonkey desperately tried to justify this increase in premium to a change of address, without considering just how ridiculous that would be given the actual change involved. I'm sure if I'd asked him to requote at the old address the price would have been the same and he'd think of some other bks to justify the increase.

Thinking of taking my Scooby from 10000 miles a year to 2000 miles a year, saving of £54 pounds, but when i asked what the policy would cost if i started a new one today i was told it would be £500 more.
With one company having a Mondeo ST diesel as a second car and using my NCB on the Scooby the Mondeo would be an extra £700, but having just the mondeo as my only car came out as £1100 with most companies with no NCB (including ZOLLARS lot as well) 3 months ago i was quoted £560 for the same car with no NCB.confused

Very confused and feeling a day of sitting on the phone and 'net trying to get some other quotes sorted.

Madness and seems to be completely random.

I've been forced to pay 165 leva for my insurance. That's a massive 60 quid or so. Mind you that is for my massive suv/Vitara
