track day/events type question
Discussion
Gents,
would value your opinion on the following..
What more would you like to see from either trackdays or driving type events that is currently not on offer.
Is everything covered? Would you be interested in events offering say.. some track time, some driver training, some time based activities? (something else?)
This is a general brainstorming thing but would be interested if you have any views?
Thanks in advance,
Craig.

Novice days.
you go out in the morning for a bit and are timed. Then you have some some tuition, then go out and again and are timed.
If you're not quicker, you get a full refund
Timed stuff would be good, as it's quite hard to see where you are losing time or where you could be going faster. Well, I find it difficult, anyway.
I know it's mostly about having fun, but it's nice to know you are improving and getting better.
I think the proper data logging/timing equipment is quite expensive? Being able to rent it would be nice?
Not sure if any of that is already offered, as I've only done a couple, but it would be good to have.

Focussed Events already do it http://www.focusedevents.com/chrono_days_cars.asp
Can't say I agree with it personally, as I think people will end up pushing it, causing problems.

Racing without having to race-prep your car (cage, extinguishers etc)
..and also do it without those pesky helmets!A bit off the pace here

What about Lunch Time Trackdays? You do the safety briefing at the start of the month, then for that month you can rock up at lunchtime, do a 20min session with a minimal briefing and leave in time to get back to work.
I may be biased about this as I work 10mins from Brands....
To be honest, I'd settle for proper open pit lane days with good driving and no race cars testing.

What's your objection to race cars testing? Or maybe a better question to ask is, do you mean the Porsche GT3 team that rocks up with full support vehicle, or Mr. Smith that turns up in his MX5 race car to learn the circuit and have some fun?
I'm talking about a team turning up with a full-on race car getting some cheap track time in before the race on a Monday. The main problem I have with it, is the speed differentials (a problem which mx5 race cars don't create)

The latter are faster then me so just go past; the former are a little quicker than me through the corners but a waste of time on the straights, but I have drive the straights at 85% to let them past or they get all pissy and upset.
Bloody toy cars.

Race cars should be on test days that is what they are there for. If you can afford to race then you can afford to do test days. With race teams now turning up on track days it is very difficult for us normal people to get on a track day. I wonder how race teams would feel if normal cars turned up on their test days and slowed them down. When I started track days 17 years ago with Roger Williams' Club 89 the days were sessioned. The touring car boys and the other racers were in the advanced sessions and the rest of us were in the inters or novice sessions. Roger said to me last summer, "mixing race cars with normal cars is a recipe for disaster".
Many friends of mine race but do not do track days as they say they will be held up by slower drivers. Also many, not all racing drivers on track days keep their race head on instead of their track day head.
