Gents,
would value your opinion on the following.. (and no, this isnt instead of vmax btw)
What more would you like to see from either trackdays or driving type events, driving experiences etc that is currently not on offer.
Is everything covered? Would you be interested in events offering say.. some track time, some driver training, some time based activities? (something else?)
This is a general brainstorming thing but would be interested if you have any views?
Thanks in advance,
Craig.

There are 2 main sprinting events in the UK,
MLR 30-130
Vmax
There is massive demand up and down the country for both events and it's unfortunate that both events are once per year only events. Venue is also a frustration, both events are held in what some would consider Southern England (For us Jocks anyway
)
The demand is that great, that I'm sure you would be able to fill up Bi-Annual or even quarterly events to the maximum. There is very little advertisement of the event and it's very exclusive and hard to get slots to take part in.
Elvington is another airfield with a long runway that is open to booking for events like this, 3km long so I believe slightly longer than Bruntingthorpe and more central for everyone in the country to get to.
With enough time and effort and advertisement as well as frequency, (quarterly events) this could become a very successful profitable opportunity for someone to take it to that level. If I had enough time and energy, I would contact Elvington airfield, invest some money in a load of vbox's and take 30-130 and vmax to the next level, holding the events monthly and heavily advertising it through the various car forums.
I know the demand is there.
The MLR event was just held at the weekend just past. There are some serious machines that take part in this event, the leaderboard from saturday and then the other non Evo/GTR crowd there on the sunday..

The times posted by some would put all the supercars on the planet to shame, including the Bugatti Veyrons of this world. 5.9s 30-130 is incredible acceleration. 30-130 makes sense as it is a rolling start and takes out the whole launch aspect,It's a true test of a cars performance in my opinion. The leaderboards above were live and updated every couple of minutes throughout the days so that it then became a live event for many in their homes keeping track of what times what cars were doing. (All adds to the excitement)
Anyway, to your question, perhaps a 30-130 event then onto vmax but I guess this wouldn't be practical at Bruntingthorpe as the aim is to carry as much speed into the bend for the long straight for the higest vmax so 30mph would never really come into it. Frequency and Location are my gripes.
Only my views, perhaps it's the exclusive nature of this event that makes it popular but if the demand is there for more, then it would be a good idea to up the supply

I run standing mile events and at present its very difficult to attract the right cars to these events twice a year let alone monthly.MLR 30-130

Re: the above, I can't see Brunters being too happy with 50-100 Jap turbo'd cars making a racket.
Neither, IMHO, would it retain the feel and relaxed atmosphere that VMax has for so long retained. Many VMaxxers attend because they trust the other VMaxxers.
If you get my point.
ps carrying speed through the corner is now well known to make no difference to most cars. Indeed I still zonked through at 170 having spun on the corner.

Chris, at what airfield do you run this event and what is your target audience? A little bit of publicity around the forums promoting the event would work wonders. I'm on quite a few of the forums and have never heard of your standing mile event.
Craig will know by the amount of emails he receives in respects to the demand. If there are 50 slots and he's received 200 emails then he knows to run it Bi annually if not Quarterly/Thirdly to give everyone a slot. Set the minimum power level at say 250bhp, keep the 1.2 clio guys away, that way you get a performance car market and hit your target audience.
I think 50 slots once per year (especially with many of you guys returning to do it again) is very very restrictive. Open it up a little. If not a few times a year, then perhaps just a Sat AND Sun once per year. That would open it up from 50 to 100 cars.
Just my views anyway, but like I said before, perhaps its this restriction that keeps it exclusive? It doesn't make sense as a business idea with the old supply and demand, I'm not saying that Craig or anyone else is making money from it, just that it has the potential to do so with advertisement and frequency. Cars are getting faster and more powerful every year, all of us can get up to 70 in a few seconds, the roads aren't autobahns. These unrestricted events allows us to open up our cars without fear of losing our licenses. The demand is always going to be there just to let off a bit of steam for most, to meet up, to compare, just generally to have a saturday/sunday out with the car doing what it was designed to do.

Advertising is always difficult as PH pull any threads for events as they contrevene the crossposting rule.Craig will know by the amount of emails he receives in respects to the demand. I mirror Neil Boltons sytatement, we have loads of grief from participents who don't care and jepordise the venue with their behaviour, this is why events like Vmax are so refreshing.

For those north of the border, there is the 'race the runway' event in Edinburgh (June). It is a charity event so hopefully I'm not advertising it and get a big frown attached to my post.
They offer an 1800m distance but limited runs, altho a "sumptuous lunch" is in the offing - their words. You a good chef Craig?
Also, didn't p'hds do a "how to take good photos of your car in / out of a studio" day out a while ago? That might be something to consider as I'm guessing most of your audience also have a DSLR camera (or similar) somewhere in their toys locker at home.
Restrictions on publishing vmax pics online being respected of course. (personally think it is poor form to post any such unauthorised pics from any event day anywhere but that is just my view).
On the same theme, I've seen at (for example) S'stone track days where a specialist photographer turns up and takes the same staid and boring photos that any 15y/o GSCE photography student could take (and then charge a packet for the privilege of buying them).
I reckon there is definitely a gap in the market for a bit of digital wizardry and/or photo art for the type of cars at vmax - such as in the Top Gear Car Gallery mag that's on sale at the moment.
Other than that, the Fosters F1 Girls are nice (terribly un PC to say that out loud!)

This is already done by TrackDemon (and someone else but I can't remember who) and if you ask TrackDemon nicely, he will happily do specific shots for you and your car, as he has already done for many PHers attending VMax (myself included).
