They are coming out by far the cheapest for my renewal (about £500 difference from who I'm with currently, Co-op). However having a 'Third party clause' without an age restriction is essential for me. Is anybody with them - ideally on Third Party Fire & Theft - able to quickly check whether there is one, and if there is whether it's got an age limiter on it please smile If it's Fully Comp that's alright too, still a lot cheaper.

Alternatively, anybody have any experience of negotiating with Co-op? Do insurance companies generally price-match?

Cheers smile

I'm with Admiral fully comp, and I'm 19. (If that is any help to you) Fully comp, by the way, is not that much more expensive than 3rd party fire and theft, I discovered.

edited because I actually read the OP correctly, no, you have to be 25 to drive other people's cars. Bummer I know.

I'm guessing DOC= Driving other cars? If so, yes... and balls frown Grr. I'm very lucky with Co-op, it's just the extra premium. frown Cheers for the quick reply though smile

In that case, do insurance companies have any flexibility regarding price-match? frown

Yep, AFAIK, the 3rd party drive other cars only applies to over 25's and only if you have Fully Comp insurance. I'm sure on the first point, not so sure on the second.

That's some comfort then smile Must admit by & large Co-op have been very good, so I wouldn't resent the extra too much. Fingers crossed that they'll be able to then smile Thank you all who've replied! thumbup

Depends on the insurer - I used to have it with Bell for a few years - was only £30, and didnt require the other car to have an active policy on it

Why is DOC so essential for you?

Had enough instances where I've needed to use it to make it something that would be hard to live without; also planning on doing a fair chunk of work on my car over the next year which will be the odd couple of days here and there, so if I can borrow a car on these occasions without having to faff about sorting out temporary cover etc then it's worth it to me smile

You do know DOC is Third Party Only cover don't you? So if you damage the borrowed car it isn't covered.

Another one is that insurance is something that you should buy based on your needs, if the cheapest doesn't give you what you want then you may have to pay more to get the product you really need. A bit like when you go shopping, if you want milk, you don't buy a bottle of Pepsi because it's cheaper.

rofl

But yeah, aware 3rd party only smile The car's I have borrowed have mostly been sheds (Old Meganes, Escorts etc biggrin) so if the worst did happen I would be able to fork it out; if I can't afford to replace it myself I don't drive it unless there's no other option!

Were fine for me when I claimed a few years back. Accepted my choice of repairer without fuss and sorted everything by email.
