Evening all,

I am currently driving myself nuts trying to find a suitable piece of furniture to serve as a TV cabinet.

This, pictured below, would be absolutely spot on perfect if only it were 10cm deeper, and the door openings a little wider. frown

The shelf depth on the above is 34cm, and the door opening is 40cm, whereas I need at least 44cm in each direction for my AV amp to fit.

I can find plenty of TV cabinets that fit these dimensions, but they're all too low, and clearly designed to have a TV sat on top of them, which I don't want.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts!

There just don't seem to be any bits of furniture which cater to people with AV amps!

Only thing I can think of is to buy said piece of furniture and have it modified by a good quality cabinet maker/carpenter.

Be the cheapest option rather than him bespoke make the whole thing from scratch!!

Bur if the OP wants the unit 10cm deeper and the doors to be wider the only thing a cabinet maker would be able to re-use would be the hinges.

However if you get a good cabinet maker it will be cheaper than you fear (though obviously more than ikea) and will be exactly what you want.

We've used Four Corners Trading for some bespoke furniture. Pretty reasonable.

Not necessarily depends on the construction of the doors, looking at the picture they are frame construction so you could dismantle and replace with wider pieces as hes only wanting a few cm more (arent we all) biggrin

Also the sides look like they are multi panels rather than a solid piece so adding depth would be easy enough. just colour matching would be more tricky.

I did give that a thought, but between the depth of the amp itself and the wires coming out of the back, it would end up with the top of the cabinet being a good 3-4 inches out from the wall, which would look a bit crap, frankly! Bespoke it is, I think.

Try these 2 chum:

http://www.roxtongardencentre.co.uk/index.php?opti... I was there last week and something which looked the spit of what you posted was there.

http://www.gilatimurshop.co.uk/ I`ve bought a few bits and bobs from these chaps and they have a massive underground Aladdins cave of furniture in the style you`re looking for. They`re really friendly and helpful, can`t recommend them enough.

Good Luck

This one might do it, total length 1350mm, making each door 450mm with the edges etc, so might just squeeze though, and looks to be enough depth 510mm

Scrub that last one, this is the one you want, 4 doors, opening in the middle, should give you plenty of room to get the amp in

We could make you exactly what you want, to your dimensions.
The photo shows some kind of Mexican Pine styled dresser though, which top whack would be £750. Bespoke will be more, but made to spec, and by English cabinet makers

I have one of these in light oak (which I couldn't find on the website) and the internal cupboard measurements are 49w x 47cm deep, though the shelf itself is 40cm deep. There are 2 door ones too.

You might find something here (W Kent and SE London) http://www.gallery136.com/furniture.shtml

Nice, but unfortunately needs to have some form of grille for the doors, so that the remote can work on the kit in there.

You can get remote extenders, which pick up the signal and send it by wire to a thingy stuck over the IR receiver. Video duplication houses used them - one remote, 10 machines all kick off.

Hmm. How would that work with a universal remote which controls all the devices?

I had a remote extender with universal remote - there is a main sensor that sits above the cupboard and this had 6 little wires coming of it.

Each of these wires had a little pad that stuck over the ir eye on the equipment.

It all worked fine for me!
