Replacing the double DIN with a Kenwood. Better sound?
Discussion
I was just talking to a chap about putting a Denison Gateway 500 into an SLK, which would create bluetooth compatibility for my phone and iPod connection, work with the existing steering wheel buttons and be completely invisible. He reckoned about £600 fitted.
I mentioned upgrading the stereo as well as is just a standard one, and he suggested that rather than go the Gateway route, replace the head unit with a double din Kenwood system with in-built sat nav, DVD, plus all the connectivity I was after., probably be a bit over £1,000
Just wondered whether anyone had done this (on any car, not necessarily a Merc) and whether there was much of a quality difference? Obviously it would be using the existing speakers, but presumably it could be a better sound output, more powerful amps, whatever.
Also wondered whether it might look a bit aftermarket, whether it would match the dash illumination at night, and also wondered whether it would affect my insurance premium any?
Just after thoughts, advice or suggestions really.
