I've been looking to change my cars, but I have this feeling I might be doing the wrong thing. I've had the Elise for nearly 3 years and the Accord Type R for 2 years. They're the best combination I've had. With the Elise being used on the weekends and the Accord as the A to B motor. They're both great on fuel and in these times that's a big plus point. The Accord is a well rounded run about with the added bonus of being quite good when pushing on. As a pair they only cost £800 to insure a year so not bank breaking. The Elise isn't really loosing any money and I don't think it will.

The things that make me think about changing. I'm not really using the Elise as much as I could, as the state of the roads around buckinghamshire are shocking. It gets a bit tiresome having to dodge pot holes all the time and it takes away from the enjoyment of a good hoon. Or you get stuck behind a 42mph driver just before a good stretch of road. It's shocking at everything except going around corners fast and thats great fun when you get the rare opportunity to ring it's neck. The Elise is a little bit gutless and I do miss having more power sometimes. An easy thing to sort out you may say, by slipping in a Civic Type R SC engine in the back. The Elise is a sport 160, so seems a shame to remove the one thing that really makes it different from a regular S1 Elise. I could go out and buy a regular S1, but I like my 160 and it has all the uprated parts and is pretty much perfect, plus the devil you know and all that, all it really needs is a new engine. The Accord Isn't the best on the motorways and could do with a 6th gear. I'm really just getting a little bored with it. Then again I really can't think of a car that would be a good replacement for the price I paid for the Accord.

What I'm thinking of doing is selling both the Elise and Accord and just getting one car. There's a Mercedes E320 Coupe which has had the E36 engine fitted. Which I have got the opportunity to buy. I've liked the idea of having one, but with not many being manufactured they don't come up for sale very often. I had a Mercedes 300ce-24 coupe a couple of years a go, which was a bit of a dog and I'd got fed up with repairing it all the time. It was no sports car and drank fuel with little go. But I could see that if I'd got one which wasn't such a pile of rubbish it would be a great car. But I'm not sure if this E36 is going to be a good enough replacement for both the cars I currently have. It's a auto which I'm no great fan of, I'm also a little concerned the handling isn't going to be a good all rounder like the Accord is. It'll be better than the old coupe, but I'm not sure if it's going to be a big enough step. I could maybe keep the Elise as well as, but then insurance for both cars would start to get a little high. The E36 is a little thirsty. My heart is saying go buy it and see if you like it, head says I'm likely get bored quickly.

Other car's I've been browsing on PH classifieds are:

BMW E46 M3 I think these are just going to keep on dropping in value as there are so many around * Would be a good replacement for the both current cars
BMW E39 M5 I dont really need such a large car running cost if it goes wrong * Great all round car with a great engine
Lotus Carlton Running costs if it goes wrong * colt car and would be great to own one once
Lotus Esprit V8 Running costs again and maybe a little fragile * Love the looks I've got a bit of a soft spot for Lotus cars
Monaro VXR 500 bad on fuel * I like the idea of big v8 and 500BHP, Ticks the supercharger box
TVR T350C reliability and could I having it as my only car * I really liked my old TVR as it was a bit off the wall. Straight 6 sound
Skyline R33 Not sure I want another 4wd car * I would like to try one and I think they sound ace.
Supra Is it going to feel the same as most Japanese so a little clinical * I would like to try one and I think they sound ace.
NSX Finding a good one with in the amount of money I have to play with, maybe a little to good and missing a bit of soul * Liked them since a little kid, I do like Hondas after the ATR
The car of the day there is usually one.

As you can see I'm looking at cars with decent sized engines. I've done the 4 cylinders and want some more displacement. What do people think I should do as I can't make my mind up. One minute I'm all ready to put the cars up for sale, the next I'm back to wanting to keep them. I don't want to make the mistake of selling and then regretting what I've done.

What should I do?

I have a friend with a VX Turbo. There's something about it I don't really like. I think it's down to its electronic throttle feels very strange coming out of the 160.

I'd sell both and get a E46 M3. Fun for A-B AND pleasure runs. Got to be the best all rounder TBH.
