Hi All

Having decided that this possibly could be my next car, I just wanted to hear opinions from people who have owned them?
The reviews online seem quite positive, the insurance and MPG is manageable for me, and it's a convertible (ish) too which is what I wanted. I don't need four seats, am happy to have a manual roof - electric roof, as cool as it is, takes too much of a hit on MPG by the looks of it!

What are they like to live with?
Is the MPG realistically that close to 37MPG?
What are they like to drive?

Any help will be much appreciated smile

I absolutely love them! Proper old skool Jap cars. I take it you're after one of the SIR's with the VTEC engine in it?

I adored my SiR del Sol. Mugen modified, really enjoyable in every way. Definite thumbs up.

Riknos - Not sure, would like to try VTEC, but MPG is going to be a big concern of mine, I'm guessing VTEC is addictive?
I think I was looking at the ESi I think?

Thanks for the feedback so far! biggrin

Dont bother unless its the DOHC vtec.

The roof mechanism is pretty cool. I had a small amount of dislike because they used the CRX name, but they are ok.

Well the main reason I'll be getting it is a daily commuter to use in the summer with the hope of having the roof off, and it'll be replaced somewhen next year - would it still be best to get the VTEC in that circumstance?
What I'm trying to say, poorly, are the other Del Sols, aside from VTEC, ok for this?

Well, they'll be useable but not as much fun. A friend of mine has a Del Sol and it is rather cool. The electric roof mechanicism is interesting to watch though I had to think how hard it would be to fix if it broke. You can still use it in manual mode though so you'll never be stuck with the roof down! Overall it's a neat, small car with a nice touch of 90's Japanese class. It looks like a great little car, and I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at one!

They will be a fair bit slower, maybe a little better on fuel, but even as a daily driver its worth having the vtec.

Ah right, all is becoming clearer!
Well I'm driving a 1.4 2003 Civic at the moment, so as long as it's more fun than that while remaining fairly frugal then that's good enough for me!
I won't be looking at one until after May, so hopefully prices won't go up too much by then!
I'm hoping to get a fairly decent one for 2k, if I can sell the Civic for that, so fingers crossed I like how they drive!

They're not bad little cars, quite reliable, quite chuckable. It might be hard to find a good one, as they are getting on a bit now.

And have attained cult status which seems to bump the prices up of semi decent ones!
Basically the spec I would like is preferably manual roof, with semi decent mileage - i.e not sky high - and the VTEC could be looking to be a possibility!

Just remember that some are imports.
The fast import is the "SIR" which is 168BHP, the fast UK spec is badged VTI and is 158BHP. Avoid jap spec VTI as I think its a 1500cc as is the Jap VXI.
The UK ESI is about 123BHP, and slightly more economical than the VTI.
If it were me and insurance was not a problem, I would buy a mint Jap import SIR.
I had a Civic SIR back in 2000 and it was absoloutly fantastic. It always gave the biggest grinbiggrin

Insurance unfortunately is the problem! I'm with an insurance company who won't insure imports so that's out of the question! Otherwise I would be sticking with another March Cabriolet!
But an ESi will probably be the most likely candidate, but a UK car is a must!

I've got an EG Esi. Its no rocket ship but holds its own. Also the handling is quite good. With spirited driving (VTEC is addictive) I still get 32-35mpg.

Cool thanks for the info! Providing I like how one drives it may just be my next car!
