If you have some office admin experience and want to work in HR then go for it. I graduated with an LLB and worked as a recruiter for a bit whist also studying the LPC. I subsequently completed an Msc and have been in HR roles ever since.

Get networking to get some experience. I employed my sister for 3 months and she has forged her own HR career in a public sector environment.

Edit - get on Linkedin. There are scores of HR groups. Get friendly with your local CIPD group. Sign up for any of the free sessions being run for employment law from the likes of Peninsula etc if only just to network and meet HR people. There are lots of free employment law and HR workshop/seminars out there. Speak to HR recruiters as they will often partner with a local law firm to run similar sessions.

I graduated in September from a degree in Criminal Justice, I had always wanted to work in some area of the justice system, ideally for the probation service. It became clear towards the end of my degree that this was very unlikely to happen due to the public sector redundancies, the future of the probation service seems uncertain and they are very unlikely to recruit in the near future. I’ve been applying for HR admin jobs with the intention of working my way up in HR, however I’ve not had much luck and have been unemployed for quite a while now. I’ve also been applying for anything that would require me to use my brain and has the potential for career development, I’ve managed to get nothing more than temp work from time to time in receptionist/admin/PA roles.

I’m looking for ideas of new areas to look at, any suggestions of any roles really. I know that I’m being quite vague but that’s because I’m open to any ideas. I’m very self motivated and tend to enjoy any role as long as I’m given a chance to use my initiative, I like a challenge and I cope well with pressure. I would not enjoy working in IT or Finance, and I’m not keen on a job that involves a great deal of travelling.

…So from this, does anyone have any suggestions of new areas of employment for me to consider? I’m finding it so hard to find work that I’m considering studying for another year, however this would only be useful if I could narrow down what I wanted to do!

I'd be thinking about the LPC I think. A good bet for this would be to get work at a solicitors, and then impressing them enough to sponsor you a bit for going back to Uni in a few year's time.
