I have been asked to complete a couple of Psychometric Tests next week, the last time I did these was at the start of my career some (*cough* 15/16 years ago).
I am hoping to try a few out over the weekend to get my ‘brain’ conditioned for the test, after a search on the internet there seem to be a lot of sites offering ‘free tests’ which then require your credit card details – does anybody know of any sites that offer free tasters

I have lost count of the number of these I have sat over the years, and they all come up with the same answer = INTJ, which given my work is spot on. Sometimes it’s ENTJ. or something same but different on other type of tests.

Whatever you do, don’t think too hard about the answers, and you must answer them all.
What you MUST NOT do is try and answer them in the way you think the interviewers would like you to answer them. Whatever the bad parts of your personality, they get magnified to the point of you coming across as a bit of a weirdo. - Yes made that mistake...

I failed one once 
I was at a group selection day with about 15 other candidates for 2 or 3 jobs. Half way through the day they offered me a job, but asked me not to tell the other candidates and to carry on with the rest of the exercises.
Next exercise was the psychometric test.
I was elated that I'd been offered the job, nervous as I'd be relocating 300 odd miles from home for the first time, and trying to hide it all from my fellow candidates. No wonder the results came back a bit
Managed to convince them I wasn't nuts and got the job in the end.

They should tell you what type of test they use and if there are practice tests available, tell you where to get them.
Practically, tests are either personality questionaires (e.g. MBTI, NEO, OPQ, Hogan, PASAT) or ability tests (English , Maths, Logical reasoning). Your prep is very different for both as the latter may include time limits per item or section which you can get used to and practrice will help. Personality tests do what they say on the tin and I think they expect some 'impression management' and may have something built in to detect you doing that. I would do any practice tests you can find from the big publishers even if they wont tell you which tests they use: SHL, PSL, Hogrefe, Talentlens, TalentQ, Pearson.
Of course they could be using some in-house developed test where there are not always practice tests.

ks - neither M or B were even Psychologists. You'll find very papers published on it in the ClinPsy domain, as it is largely eschewed by the Pysch community as being almost worthless.
Dig deeper and you'll find that even the Maths don't stack up.
Anyone with a modicum of pyschology knowledge can work out the constructs the question relate to, so your best bet is to work out what type the Job requires and answer accordingly. Oh and 50% of people retested come out in a different group - great isn't it
