I have just finished clearing out our Leon Cupra R ready for it's trip to the dealers tomorrow where it is being traded in for a boring but cheap to run and maintain Ford Focus.

We have had the car from new for almost 8 years and it has given us lots of enjoyment. Sure, it has also given us a few expensive service/tyre/brake bills, but it has served as a reliable family car as well as a car that I can occasionally take out for more 'interesting' runs.

It's weird how attached you can get to something that, at the end of the day, is just a lump of metal but I know that the new owner will be getting a bit of my soul with the car.

It would be nice to think that one day I will own another car as good as this one has been and I'm currently deciding whether or not to purchase a very nice mini cooper s to act as the fun car in my life, but the Cupra will leave a big gap.

Would anybody else care to share memories of great cars they have had in the past ?

Just sold my old Audi (looking at a 996 soon), but when I had to get rid of the MGB that I had for 20 odd years, that was a bitter pill.
i know how you feel.

I still regret selling the last Mk4 Astra I had. 2 years/40k of fantastically reliable motoring. Stupidly traded it in for a Mk5 Astra which was a piece of st.

I think regrets (or fond memories) of some decent motors will always be there to some extent

My Vogue left me on Wednesday.
Very upset to see it go.
No company car will come close.

Just got my Cupra R a week ago today, the world turns on it's axis! fking fantastic car, I love everything about it so far. Sorry to hear your Cupra R is going. I'll be keeping mine as long as I can.

I know how you will feel missing your car go, I was quite attached to my first car, a trusty Fiesta. I feel that despite being inanimate, every petrolhead has a relationship with his car, my Fiesta was like a good friend to me and we tackled some awesome roads and some hellish weather together. We can only assure ourselves that they will go to loving new owners who will look after them as they deserve - I didn't care for that car for some kid to fking wreck it!

I'm sure you will have many miles of enjoyment from it.

The keys have been handed over and we now have a plain looking Focus instead frown Time to think of a new forum name...

I had a MK4 Astra and was invited to the MK5 launch at the local dealership.

The boot of one of the cars wouldn't lock shut, it had a very uneven floor in the boot as well as that stupidly small opening. Then with the front seat all the way back so your legs fit in there was literally 1 inch of leg space for a rear passenger, there was plenty of room in the MK4.

They went after VW et al customers with the MK5 with form over function, compared to the MK4 which looked good and was extremely practical.

Sorry to hear that mate .. you'll get another car and that void will be filled .

One of the saddest days was driving my WR Blue Subaru Bugeye STi Prodrive to the dealership .. It was such a special car cry
What made me even more bitter was I was having to get rid of it to pay for my divorce lawyer furious

My old 1.9 205 gti... I haven't owned a car since that matched the composure, plantedness and gokart-like driving experience of that.

I will buy another one, but values are only going one way now so it's a bit prohibitive at the minute

Sold a few cars now that make you pause for thought:

A Locust (not Locost) kitcar - built from plans at age 19/20. Took 9mths to build - ran it for 3 or 4 years - strange seeing that one go down the road on a trailer.

The replacement Westfield - 7yrs of fun and a rebuild - not quite so bad watching an engineer from Ark Royal and his young daughter drive that one away on a freezing cold morning (no heater in the car) - I nearly crashed it on ice on my final run out just before they turned up to collect it!

Lancia Stratos replica - only ran that one for a few months - seeing that one being driven off by a designer from Lotus was interesting - only sold for the first integrale.

Lancia Beta Spyder - a year in the rebuilding, ran for a few months and sold to create space for my first integrale.

Ran the integrale for 7 yrs and delivered it to it's new owner way down south - seeing it in the rear view . .. but I was returning home to my integrale evo that I'd bought from the same location a year earlier!
