If someone makes an insurance claim against me, however, the registrationthey supplied is wrong - is the claim invalid? If I got any damage fixed and pleaded ignorant would the claim be disregarded??

What are the circumstances of the claim? Did you rear-end them?

If they are claiming for another vehicle it could be that you were set up, and they are insurance fraudsters. It happened to me, of course there was a thrid car which caused them to make an emergency stop, which then sped off, and mysteriously the driver of the car, female in the flesh, became male in the claim, the car mysteriously acquired more occupants, everybody had whiplash etc etc. Bugger all I could do though.

If they are claiming for a car other than the one at the scene, then fight it all the way! Make your insurers fight it, report it as a fraudulent claim, don't let the b'stards get away with it!

On the other hand, if they just made a slight error in giving you their details, and you want to use that to avoid your responsibility, then don't be ridiculous!

Well, yes and no.

If they are claiming for damage to some other registration, then I certainly wouldn't want to be paying up, but if it is just a typo or minor clerical error, then you still have a responsibility.

Unless they are being underhand, and they want you to fix up their uncles car or something, then all I can see is the error being corrected, and everything carrying on as normal.
