Hi All,

The wifes X5 is due four tyres. She has the 19-inch alloys and prices are around £600 for Kuhmo, £700 ish for Brigstone and £850 for Michelin. She does around 6/7k miles a year round town, however we do always jump in the X5 when we have a long journey to do - which is about twice a year!

So, what tyres should we go for? I understand the 'always go for the best you can afford' approach - however is there really much difference?

Hi, I've got an x3, and it came with khumos on it, and they are rubbish, no front end grip and really poor handling from them. Changed the car onto vredestein winter tyres, and actually handles better! Will certainly not be putting the khumos back on again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, are they all winter tyres or do they do any all weather ones?

We've always put Michelin Diamaris on our x5 (e53) and they've been superb.

aah, I have the same dilemma for my X6, Bridgestone Dsport, Michelins or Dunlop's, got Dunlop's on there now and could do with something a tad quieter, any suggestions?

These Vredstein tyres are getting a lot of posative coments on the Audi forums - particularly on S4's etc. However, what are they like on the X5 - much noise?

Nothing unusual. Apart from the reviews the thing that made me go for the Vredstein was that they were one of the few options available with the correct Load Index....I was originally going to put some Michelin Diamaris on until it was pointed out to me they had an inferior Load Index to the OEM spec. The I found the Vredstein...

Hi, I'm running Toyo's Proxes on mine ( 315 35 20 rears & 275 45 20 fronts )& I really rate them. Tyres have been on for more than 13k & still loads of life in the rears, less so on the fronts as the outer edges are wearing but probably good for another 5/6k. I can see the rears doing another 8/10k.
They coped with the snow well & grip is good in the wet & fantastic in the dry.
IMO nothing compares for the price ( approx £ 279 pair for fronts & £ 320 pair for rears ) 19's obviously cheaper.
Tread pattern looks good as well.
Phil.
