I've got both of the above programs, using ITN convertor to create a route as it has the benefit of google maps and the using Mapsource to get the route onto my Garmin.

Just wondered if anyone has any tips for using the programs, as I don't seem to be too good with them!

I can create a route on ITN Converter easily and save it to my computer.

When I then open my route in Mapsource it just puts them all as waypoints with straight lines in between not following any road. It also puts the waypoints in alphabetical order, so when I choose 'Create Route Using Selected Waypoints' I have to have both ITN Converter and Mapsource open next to each other so I can get the waypoints in the correct order - is there something in the settings I can do to stop it doing this?

Also, it just finds the quickest route between waypoints, not necessarily the same route as I had just planned in ITN Converter. Is the idea just to use as many way points as you possibly can, to force it into plotting the route you want to take?

Use TYRE, which is probably even easier to use than ITN Converter (either use the Google maps facility within it, or standalone Google maps and then import the URL), and can put the routes directly onto a Garmin without using Mapsource at all.

Thanks. That program seems much better.

The way maps are displayed on Mapsource was horrible. Tyre also transferred the route to the Garmin instantly and seems to have actually transferred the route I planned, rather then waypoints without calculating a route.

I use TYRE with Tomtom, so I did not know exactly how it works with Garmin. It is an amazingly good piece of software - wonderful that people provide such things for free. It gets updated very regularly, so it is always worth checking whether there is an update available.
