...uttered the girlfriend, as I examined the arc of scratches on the windscreen of my beloved Merc, caused by the wiper rubber coming adrift and exposing part of the metal backing to the glass as she drove home in a rainstorm.
Apart from the application of a large hammer, and subsequent replacement (to the screen, not the girlfriend), can anyone suggest something which might reduce the appearance of the aforementioned marks...

How bad is the damage ?
This did a great job on an old barge I ran for a couple of months

though the damage was lots of very very fine scratches built up over a number of years, if the scratches are fairly deep unfortunatly I don't think much will help other than wet sanding which I've no experience of or for that matter wether it's even possible.
