After the birth of our son about six months ago i looked into moving but just can't afford to move up to the next step, i want our next move to be the last for a good twenty years as i hate the agro and expense of moving. The house could do with a bit more storage and another room to keep us comfortable for a few more years. Also the gardens fairly small as we have two dogs aswell.

I looked into buying a bit of land directly behind our house to make our small garden big enough for him and our two dogs. Finally managed to buy it and should be completed next week. Its about tweleve meters deep and fifteen wide ontop of our original garden. I was gona create a seperate dog run which is in hand so he can't go where they do there business and make a nice garden for him.

I am thinking of putting a log cabin in the garden as a play room and extra storage and had a look at a few yesterday. I want aboout four meters by for meters give of take a bit. Can anyone recommend a firm or have previous expereince of firms to avoid purchasing one of these. Also is it essential to have all the extra insulations and bits ive been recommended?

I want to put a lawn in for him as well as i took our us 3 years ago as it was dead and rotting. Was laid by builders onto of all sorts of rubbish and hardly any top soil in places. Also has a massive tree with an order on it which shades the garden. Was looking into fake lawms as i dont think a normal lawn will ever grow nicely and one of the dogs is allergic to grass. Anyone got any experience with these and can you recommend me a firm to supply and fit?

Can't comment on astro turf, but we got our cabin from Scandinavian Log Cabins Direct (www.slcd.co.uk) and we're very pleased with the result. If the logs are a decent thickness (45mm) then I wouldn't think you would need them insulated, but you definitely want the full height under the floors and above the ceiling.

I would also go for the steel roofing in addition to the felt. The felt on its own is pretty puny on any of these cabins.

I would look at lazy lawns artificial grass, i have had a little look at it and it appears excellent. One day when i can afford to do my own garden i'll be using this stuff.

Its a shame that more people dont have it, i think people may be put off because they think its like astroturf but it really isn't.

Not many people can keep a lawn looking like its just been laid, it takes lots of work and is in most peoples cases impossible so using artificial turf to me is a bit of a no brainer. (costs aside, iirc its in the region of £55 per m2 fitted but the size of area will effect final price, i.e the larger the area the less per m)

It's a piece of piss to get a lovely looking lawn. All you have to do is feed it twice a year, aerate it and sand it once a year, roll it and mow it twice a week in the growing season. Do this for 300 years and you'll have a perfect lawn.

( a line first used by the head gardener of Hampton Court, I believe, in a response to an American tourist's question)

I have used this mob before http://www.nomow.co.uk/Home.html for a rear postage stamp garden in Belgravia.

Well impressed.

i usd easigrass in london for our garden, it was a supply only as i couldnt afford the fitting, spent a good few days laying mot type one and sharp sand for the base. but looks really good and get lots of comments, great for the kids though. heres ours last summer and and even after the hard winter it held up well.

ive put a pic of it before i started messing around with it, took me 5 days from start to finish and moved 11 ton of blocks, stones, sand and mot type 1 by wheelbarrow all by myself.
