Suggestions for a cheap and easy surround setup?
Discussion
Just bought a new Sharp LCD tv, and the sound from the built-in speakers is terrible.
In the past I've done the full 5 speaker setup and still own floor standers with a matching centre plus some rears. But I don't use it as I don't have the room or enthusiasm for all that equipment any more. Can anyone suggest a nice simple amplified 5.1 or 2.1 system? I am hoping for somethiing small and unobtrusive which preferably takes an input from the TV so you don't have to keep changing inputs? I thought this would be very easy to find, but most of the ones I have seen for sale are unsuitable because they are designed to work with an included built-in DVD player, or they are designed for PCs which output via 3x 3.5mm jacks. ideally I need one which can accept coaxial digital which is all that my current TV outputs.
Second question related to the above, will my TV passthrough, via its coaxial digital output, the 5.1 signal that is coming from my xbox and ps3 via hdmi? I have read that it won't do this. If so, where does this leave me for getting surround out of my ps3 and 360?
Ideally I don't have a lot to spend, <£100 and there are loads of 5.1 systems in this range but they don't appear to do what I need :\
