Well, Ive done 140ish in a classic impreza, and I can confirm at those speeds, the brakes cook in about 1 second eek

My RX7 had about 140ish out of, playing with an DB9 on the motorway, but we both kinda stopped after that before it got silly.

My E36 328i was surprisingly relaxed flat out, limmited to 142 but it really didnt feel more then about 90. That car was very naughty for just having the speed creep higher and higher and you just didnt notice.

Oh and my old mini, screwed 90 out of it down hill, THAT was hairy...

luckily once upon a time they clocked me (undercover behind banghead ) at 80 rather than 130+

Ive posted this some place else a while ago from a time on my ZX7R....

Some years ago I was caught in a row of traffic, there is a slight bend in the road and then it's clear and straight for 2 miles, so.... I GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!! woo hooooooooo!!!!!!!!

I scream past a load of cars, get to 140 leptons and decide that perhaps i shouldnt go too fast as i wasnt wearing full leathers or proper bike boots so i decide to slow down. But I dont just slow down...... I decide to test the brakes and the super sticky tyres fitted to my bike.

I apply the brakes with much force and am very pleased by the lack of dive from the front forks, the reassuring grip from the tyre and the speed that the speedometre goes backwards.

After that burst of speed i should be half a mile clear of any traffic behind me, but as i look in my mirrors i see an innocent looking estate car not all that far behind me.... and its braking hard.....
uh oh....

I blink and look in my mirror again...... two men in the car... both have white shirts on....
uh oh....

I blink..... then look in my mirror again.... the innocent looking estate
car now has blue lights flashing all over it.....

OH fk!!!!!!! I pull over.... cops pull in front of me and one walks up to me....
"Do you know why we pulled you over?"

Um.... cos i overtook some cars????

"Overtaking wasnt the problem...... it was the speed you did it at..... how fast do you think you were going?"

Um..... ooo.... way under 100mph, I didnt really look at my speedo... I over took and got a little carried away but i was way under a 100!

"Would you like to walk to the car with me where I will show you a video of what you just did? "
This was a question but i kinda felt that i didnt really have a choice, so I went.

I climb in the back of the cop car and see the video picture of my bike and the numbers 88.75mph and 1.16km, they had followed me for 1.16km and my average speed was 88.75mph which means i got the most lenient punishment they could throw at me! woo haa!

The cops werent thick, they knew that i was going much faster, the one guy guessed that i was doing 120mph as I passed them, and this guy was livid, he was determinded to book me for something else, he ran all thr checks on me and my bike on the radio and he was pissed off that I was clean.

So 60 pounds and 3 points on the licence

I smile slightly, inside i'm smiling a lot as I was expecting a ban and the possibility
of losing my job... the cop notices my smile and tells me that he wasnt doing me any
favours by giving me such a small punishiment, and that it was all he was legally able
to dish out, adding that I should be in court for what I just did.

I agreed and apologized etc, as ya do, but I guess I wasnt sincere enough...
I was trying to be sincere, but I was so relieved and happy as I wasnt banned

The cop got more n more angry and repeated it all again at a much higher volume
not doing me an favours... not being kind... all that he's able to enforce... should be in court etc

I agree again, still in grovelling mode, but still it wasnt good enough and he is now shouting at me, all the same stuff again I'd had enough of grovelling by now, so as soon as he'd shouted YOU SHOULD BE IN COURT!!! I replied 'yeah.... but I'm not though am I?'

GET OUT OF MY CAR!!!!!

I got out and went steadily upon my way smile

265kph past a police car in spain( on the R1, with fellow PH'ers). Funnily enough we were going the wrong way, so by the time he'd put out his smoke and gave chase, we flew passed him going in the opposite direction. All but the last bike went unchallenged, and he parked his car accross the road and the blade came to a stop. He was FURIOUS, but when said biker took off the helmet and revealed herself as a rather lovely young lady, he seemed to mellow somewhat and let her on her way!

Only on the clock so not sure how accurate the actual speed was, but:

180 TVR Cerbera
Quite a distance off the clock (160) in my classic Impreza wagon.
150 2005 Impreza WRX
140(ish) 2005 Civic Type R
Plus every other car I've had up to max speed.

Scariest must be 115 in a 1983 Range Rover with a 300 TDI engine and many tweeks hehe

Ah, where to start:

1) In a Vanquish, on a south German Autobahn, just cruising really, at about 135-140, and a V6 mondeo comes up steadily behind, doing about 145 ish, so, well, you know, thought we might as well just demonstrate the fact we had 2 of his engines under our bonnet! God knows how poor our combined fuel consumption was for the next few miles, but we both pulled into the next petrol station and filled up........ ;-)

2) Southern italy, on the arrow straight SS163 towards NARDO, doing about 140 odd in a Focus RS, passing a Gardia police panda car (literally a panda!) who was doing about 55, and nearly blowing them off the road. For them worse was to come, because we were in a loose "convoy" of 3 RS's, so poor plod got mugged 3 times in short succession. Funniest, because we had short range radio's in the car, and as we passed the plod, we had radio'd back "just passed plod, doing 140, but it's ok, i don't think their panda can go that fast"............

3) Bruntingthorpe, in a bentley Arnarge, doing about 120mph, but going backwards, on the wet grass of the "in-field", and it took what felt about 3 counties to stop (i WASN'T driving that time ;-)

4) and finally, being able to answer "no" with complete truthfullness to the "do you always drive that fast" question for a very nice policeman who had just pulled me over for 85 in a 70. (little known to him, i'd just dropped off a different car that was easily capable of 200mph, and i'd been using rather a lot of that performance on an empty dual carriageway.......... i know, iknow, not big or clever ;-)

An indicated 115 in an 8v 1.2 Corsa was an experience. It was on a long downhill straight heading up the West Coast. In real terms it must have been close to the car's 98 top speed (if I remember the book figures for it).

There is also a bumpy section near the start of the M74 which scared me into slowing down after almost flying over it at 130 in a courtesy Mazda 3.

Haha! your doing it wrong. biggrin the bumps are a good test of a cars speed. if you nail it from the lights and can get to 140 before the bumps your doing good wink

Here's a photo of me actually being booked and getting three points. I'm the baldy guy in the grey tshirt on the left of the photo. My car is on the right.

One of my PH chums (wavey Freddie) kindly took the shot from the car park of the pub where London Pistonheaders were meeting. I managed to get to within 50 yards before being done by a speed gun.

I was well, WELL over the posted speed limit for that road. But, due to unusual and exceptional circumstances linked to the nature of the road and time of day that I was caught, the policeman decided to be lenient, rather than doing me for something that would have meant a ban.

I did a VMax in the Sagaris at Bruntingthorpe and crossed the the timing beam at a radar-verified 167mph. Trouble is that the runway is so wide and long that you don't really get an impression of speed.

Really, because I have a C2 1.4, I have achieved 104 from it, so were you really going 103?
