Has my throttle cable slipped?

Excellent run out to the Northants TVRCC meet today. But on the way back I suddenly realised I had to work harder to pick up the revs when changing gear. Got home and investigated further, and it seems I now have a couple of inches of loose play on the throttle pedal.

Is it possible that the cable has slipped? (I did at one point today start exploring that extra few inches of throttle movement beyond the "wow" point... - perhaps I stretched it!)

Should I just bite the bullet, order a new cable, and start limbering up for a headlong dive into the footwell?

Check the canter lever the cable runs through at the top of the engine. You may find that it has partially slipped out of that.

Thanks Mark. I had a quick poke around when I got home - but there's not much room to see anything in there! I'll try to take a better look tomorrow.

Get upside down and look under the pedals, mine frayed badly where the cable attached to the pedal, making the cable seem longer.

The cable i put on there was nylon coated.A lot better than the TVR offereing.

Mark - you got it spot on. I can see the lever you mean - with a little slot in the end - and the cable is not in the slot, but running loose.

Putting it back would be a lot easier if I could remove the scoop panel - but how? The workshop manual simply says disconnect the washer pipes and remove the 2 x M8 bolts to gain access to the scoop panel. But my wiper motors also seem to be fixed to it - do I need to remove them too?

Its a very early Cerb. You nee to remove the wiper arms from the spindles. And to release the scuttle completely undo the bigger nuts holding the spindles to the scuttle. Plus the bolts already mentioned.
