Well I’ve had my 968 CS almost a year now and was just perusing the “accounts”. On top of the original purchase price it’s cost me 7K GBP to run this year . That’s doing just less than 12K miles. It roughly breaks down as:

Maintenance & Repairs: 4K
Tax, Insurance & Breakdown Cover: 1.3K
Petrol:1.7K

And that doesn’t include parking, car washes, and interest on the bank loan. I’ve worked out it’s costing me £1.5 per mile to run . OK I’ve had a couple of one off (I hope!) repair bills but that’s more than my brand new Chimaera cost me to run a few years back. Still, great fun but I expect something a bit more adrenalin pumping for that kind of outlay. How does that compare to other owners here?

You have definitely been very VERY unlucky with yours.
I rack up 12,000 miles per year with my S2 and it costs me £0.2 per kilometer, no more no less.

Ouch!

My servicing & repairs for the last 12 months came to about £2.7k (see profile) but that did include a gearbox rebuild and new clutch. All the other stuff was expected really. Insurance another 600 or so and 7k miles worth of fuel. At least I know the car is now nicely sorted/fettled and (touch wood) should'nt need anything major for a good while now

I think I'll pass on Aston ownership!

It always amuses me when 964s get a slagging for being expensive to run. 944/968s CAN be just as expensive (or even more) to run. It's not leaking barrels with the four pots of course, or dual mass flywheels... it's camshafts, water pumps, PAS pumps etc.

I ran a 944S2 very cheaply. But then a 944 Turbo cost me a lot to run.

Even 993s can surprise with the odd massive bill.

I'm not sure any Porsche is that cheap to run... apart from the odd really good one that has had lots of preventative stuff done on it, and a caring owner for many years.

Hang on to your car for a long time, cherish it, and like Thom the running costs should come down. If you chop and change a lot like me, you are always fixing someone else's mistakes (and your own).

My old 944 cost me about 2k a year on average in servicing and repairs, which didn´t include anything that big. Not one of my annual services was much under a grand. It´s amazing how the small stuff just adds up. I eventually saw sense and bought a cheap reliable Tuscan.

Think ive posted this on here before..I had a 964 90G reg with 160K miles on the clock...the chap I bought it off did 70K miles in 4 years in it and he had servicing/ repair bills amounting to £17K from a southern specialist.........there was no major engine or gearbox work in that either! Cracking car though and one of the fastest 964s I have driven.

Bloody 'eck, thats a fair few quid, don't think if I add it up that the last 10 yrs motoring inc depreciation- or rather lack of, maintenance & insurance has cost me that much!
