Radio LeMans

Hi Guys,

After reading the other thread about Kangaroo.tv not being at this years LeMans event, i'm looking at alternative means to get Radio LeMans - as that, along with the video footage really made for a great experience.

What portable radio's are people using while at the event, any reccomendations with good battery life etc?

I used to simply plug in my earphones in my mobile phone under my ear defenders

I'm fairly sure Kangaroo will be available: it was a huge success last year

I've used a small Sony radio from Argos for many years. The battery life is excellent, I normally only need a couple of pairs of AAA batteries using it all week.

I have used an old Aiwa AM/FM pocket radio every year since 1996. It's maybe 2" x 3" x 1/2". Plug in my good quality full size ear phones and job is done! Really excellent reception and never used up the two AA batteries required in a single year. Maybe something like this can be sourced at a car boot or similar.

I'd assume a modern smart phone will be just as good although it's battery life is questionable.

best purchase i've made for le mans..... peltor ear defenders with built in radio and active noise control, so they cut out noise, but you can talk to someone normally next to you.

you can get the ones without noise control also.

I bought a Pure Move at John Lewis (other stores are available)
I take a small ruck-sack to the race and it fits in ther. The good things about it are the signal is 100%, its light and not too big, back at the camp-site its volume is good enough to listen to without ear-plugs. Its good.

Agree that the Peltor ear defenders with built in radio are the way to go (mine also have a socket so you can play an iPod etc through them if you want - via the headphone socket of the iPod)

So would I need an AM radio or FM if I can't get both nowadays?

No, RLM is broadcast on the FM frequency round about 91 (I cannot for some reason find the precise ferequency right now!)

I've used a pocket radio for many years without problems

What I did invest in a few years ago was fro a pair of molded ear plugs with speakers in as the racing drivers wear
No bulky ear defenders to wear and no problems with them falling out of the ears what ever I'm doing

I've got a small Sony digital tune personal radio which is good, it has AM in addition to FM so is useful for F1 when I am not at home or in the car. Used to use my phone but the current one doesn't have a radio so I bought one of these Sony Ericsson bluetooth headsets which is great and worked well at Le Mans last year - http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessori...

+1 But then I am also standing just behind the Armco.
