mug buys pup? & needs a manual.

I have just impulse bought a TVR S2 1989, Claims to have only done 24K miles but no service history, no receipts, no old MOTs only a few old SORN forms., 79 year old seller told me he had it in his barn next to his tractor for years so might explain condition but solid underneath still had black paint on chassis. (thinks? were chassis originally black?) and drives ok with no whines or other nasty noises. But it was shiny and red so I suspended disbelief and bought it anyway. (OMG what have I done). Unfortunately I know sod all about them so I will probably be spending a lot of time on this forum boring you all to tears with stupid questions. Please be patient with me. First question - I need to buy a manual. The consensus seems to be that Steve Heath’s book is the best but there appear to be two versions out there, for the S series, one sells at about £60 second hand and another version at about £30 new (TVRCC) . what is the difference, and which one should I buy? Any advice would be very gratefully appreciated. .

The two versions of Steve Heath's S series book are the first edition and the greatly expanded second edition (which has about twice as many pages).Sounds like you might have made a good buy to me... good luck and welcome to the forum, theres no such thing as a daft question on this forum so ask away and dont be shy, lets see some pictures of your new p+j too...

I think you must have seen someone go wild on ebay to be paying that much. As Roy says its the second edition you want...That and this forum (and its contibutors) is about all you need although if you join the TRVCC you will also benefit from the excellent club comic "Sprint" and some nice articles in there including some "how to's" that it sounds like you should not need - fingers crossed ... being a member also gets you a discount off some insurance companies and parts suppliers...

Did go out of publication for a while I believe, so prices rose, perhaps the guy selling that one (PH classifieds ?) doesn't realise it is readily available again ?For what they cost (on Ebay) might be worth getting a Sierra Haynes Manual (brakes and gearbox) and a Granada/Scorpio one (engine) ?

Lewdon what part of the country are you in?
If you are a practical kind of person (and I sincerely hope you are!) nothing is expensive to fix on the S with a bit of ingenuity.
Chassis can rust - but a welder and £20 worth of steel will see that sorted.
Rear trailing arms are probably one of the more expensive bits if they need attention.
Welcome and don't panic - lots and lots of friendly helpful people on here.

Thank you for such a warm welcome. I hadn’t realized that owning a TVR S would involve joining such a helpful community.
I bought the car on Sunday and work away during the week but when I get back home to Eastbourne at the weekend, and pluck up the courage to open the garage door, I’ll start investigating what I actually bought and what needs to be done. I think you will be hearing a lot more from me as I struggle up the learning curve.

don't worry - if you've got two, complete, front indicator lenses and it all goes belly up you'll be able to get most of your money back by simply auctioning them!
I used to spend a bit of time in Eastbourne (girlfriend at Chelsea College) and still have friends at Eastbourne Hockey Club, may be down in the summer in the V8S.
