A purely hypothetical question (as unless I win the lottery I am not in a position to buy any of the following.

BUT…..

If I woke tomorrow and decided I wanted to fill my driveway with 'brand new’ exotica, such as:

Lamborghini’s Aventador
Pagani’s Huayra
Ferrari’s 458 Italia

Would I be looking at an empty driveway for a couple of years?

I know for example, one could go out tomorrow and buy a Ferrari 458 with a couple of hundred miles on the clock for a premium price. But I’m talking about new cars, that have never been registered and are built to the specification and colours I would want….

In those upper echelons, can one buy an imminent ‘build slot’ for a premium price?

I was told 2 years for the new Lambo when on the stand at Geneva. I am sure you can get one earlier if you are a previous good customer and obviously the guys in the know who were invited to the factory last year will be getting theirs soon. So the 2 years I think covers "Joe Public" wandering in off the streets. I suspect 458 is same ballpark. With Pagani making so few cars it is anybody's guess. Good luck with the lottery!!

I was offered a June build slot for a 458 at the weekend. The dealer has it already for a new demonstrator but said I could take it over and spec it. I've never bought a Ferrari (or any other new car for that matter), so was rather surprised, especially as a different dealer at Geneva said it would be a year's wait.

If you already own a Zonda you might be able to get a Huayra by the end of the year, if not you are looking at 2-3 years

Or if money is no object (i.e. the £90m lands), then Clive Sutton and the like would surely get you one pretty swiftly.

from reliable sources:

458: 9-12 Months
Aventador: 18 Months
Huayra: The official line is as Street rod says but if you're really serious and you're in the right circles, you could get one early next year.

I've had my deposit down since the preview at the factory in October. My car is due Q1 next year. There were some who had deposits down before we'd seen it and they will get their cars this year but that wasn't the OP's question. he asked how long would he wait if he ordered one today. My dealer says end of 2012.

certain dealers always quote eighteen to twenty four months : long enough to appear exclusive and popular, short enough to not piss you off too much
they then do you a huge great favour and move heaven and earth to get you a car in twelve
