vx220turbo or lotus europa?

any thoughts? essentially it will be a second car but want to be able to use as much as poss and not stuck in a garage. go away for weekends but only couple of bags but do prefer the looks of the lotus but they are a good 3-5k more expensive for a very similar car. not really after an elise as i fancy something with a turbo with a bit of tuning potential.

Is it just the lack of a tubo you don't like about the Elise, as apart from the looks I understand they are pretty similar under the skin. Europa would be my choise, easier to get in and out and permanent hardtop
The Europa is more of a tourer, relatively speaking, although effectively they are the same car. Same chassis, same engine (although remapped to 225bhp) just different styling and interior. I can also imagine the Europa being slightly easier to live with as a daily driver.
I might be wrong, but I am sure that the unsold VX220 Turbo's were recalled and made into Europas.

i believe there about the same to get in and out of, same tub!! however the vx220 with the roof off is easy to get in and out of. I just leave the door shut, window down and "step" into mineEuropa would be my choise, easier to get in and out and permanent hardtop
roof off not a big deal but fancy air con but dont know how hot the cabins get on these? yes def fancy the turbo shove and dont really want to stretch to an exige sc, im a bit of a badge snob as well but the vx does look good enough and pretty rare which is a big plus in my books. prob with rare cars there is bugger all to go and look at!

the vx does not get hot at all in the cabin, not even with the heaters on lolgareth.e said:

The Europa is more of a GT car. It's been refined so it's got a better interior, as well as being easier to get into/out of. Believe it also has air con. The VXT, on the other hand, has no air con, little sound deadening, and it's still a pain in the arse to get into and out of. Basically it's a choice of whether the OP wants to sacrifice that little extra speed for a bit more refinement. :S
Although personally, if it's purely a weekend car, I suggest going for the VXT. Not that I'm biased in any way

Not a lot of them do, mine used to but it was just a case of regluing the seal around the joint (too much posing with the roof down, y'see) and it's absolutely fine now. 20k will get you a VX220 VXR (a turbo with more lairiness) and enough cash to take care of it should anything go wrong.http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2608355.htm
This VXR can't be overly far away (I guessed AL10 for the postcode as IIRC it's in Herts) as an example.
Have you also considered something like a Caterham or some form of kit car if you just want something different? And if you can stretch your budget by 4k you can go Atomic....

well had a go in a europa this morning albeit the 200bhp one and really liked some things but not sure about others. drove really well nice and taught but a little lacking in straight line grunt which makes me wonder how much difference a remap and different exhaust might make. only real downside is the boot made my tam boot seem huge!
